On another note, you were really expecting $10k+ on trade-in (wholesale) for a first-gen IS? Regardless of condition?

We've been offered what I consider silly money for our manual tranny IS300 with 400k on it...

Not wholesale from a dealer, you haven't...

No, not from a stealer....would be pointless to sell a rare(ish) car to a dealer.

Their business model is to rape the seller AND the buyer.   ;D

Yeah I've been noticing that wholesaler value for older vehicles is minimal, and that's specifically because of the risk involved. These cars do have a market and value, but finding that buyer can often be tough and not worth a new/used car dealer's time.

No deal. Next one.  :'(

They want $45k for it. Overpaying to get the customer into a new vehicle.

I would have comitted if it was in the 20s.

Did you consider similar vehicles at other dealerships?

There are none, especially around here. XJRs are very, very rare.

I have contacted a bunch of sellers, only one got back to me and then sold it while I was negotiating without telling me.

at 45k, they would at least be able to cover what you would want for yours.

in their systems all they'll see is that any 15 xj's are roughly 31k with the 3.0L out there. R and the options on that should make it more interesting and higher value. even so, mid 30's would likely be all they should honestly hope for. but some merican would likely pay pretty well for it and their dollar means close to 40 for a no muss, no fuss sale.

the issue is that they will also see that the only 04 is300 that has been on the market or sold recently *just* sold at peel chrysler and had been asking 3500 with 290km.

basically, you can't get it from both sides. they want to make a bit on both ends, and you trying to get over retail for yours means they need over retail for theirs to have it make sense.

Yep, so no dice unless they can meet me in the middle somewhere and I can make it work.

Talked to the owner today, really nice guy who is as obsessive about his car care as I am. Too bad.

I would be perfectly happy with a lesser XJ 5.0 S/C with the right options. All it takes is a pulley and tune and it is above R levels of power. Just have not had any luck so far.

Would you "settle" for a V8 XF?

If it was an R in black, I would consider it strongly.

Misfire on #5 cylinder on the 323i so this afternoon I got at the coils & plugs. Coil looked fine as did the plug. Moved the coil from #5 to #1... so far no issues, but if the problem moves to #1 I'll know its a bad coil. If it stays on #5, then maybe its a bad injector. Took me about 20mins to get it done & it was around +5, so not horribly cold.

Sigh...I became the nice dad... :P ::) Gave my garage spot to my kid.  Parked the Fusion outside and took the battery out.  Hopefully the squirrels and mice don't strip it bare and try to sell the copper on the black market.  Or take the insulation and make a home under the shed.  On Friday his CBR goes in the garage too...or if he gets his way, in place of the Christmas tree  (not  ;D)  How about in front of the fireplace dad?  >:( No.

The door handle appeared to break on the Mustang - driver's side of course. These are known to be a problem point. They were plastic and break in the cold. Took another look before I ordered the metal replacements. My car already had metal ones. Taking the door apart (in the cold, on the driveway) showed that the linkage had come apart. The clip that holds it together was missing. The driver's door never had a great feel so I think the clip was always missing. I was able to bodge something together with a couple spare nuts as spacers on the linkage and it works great now. Zero dollar fix for the win.  8)

If you're worried about it put something under the hood to deter mice...Some people use Bounce Sheets, I prefer to use a couple bars of Irish Spring.

We use to use bounce and Irish spring in our RV, until on the one forum I followed somebody posted bounce sheets and Irish spring chewed up by mice.
