Further to the coolant "discussion"  :),  I know find out that the coolant in my 2015 Mustang is actually DEXCOOL.  :o :P :'(

DEXCOOL is the worst engine coolant the world has ever seen and was introduced and used by who else ...  GM.  The Japanese, Koreans and the Euro ppl have never used DEXCOOL.  They just let GM self destruct with and then Ford, being Ford, started in with it.  For model years 2018 they switched to what the ASIAN auto markers use.

DEXCOOL has a 5 year max, but general consensus is that it was safe for 3 years.   :P

Worth the 7 minutes for Ford owners:

Also the big issue for me is the Ford 3.7 V6 has a terrible water pump design that is both wickedly expensive even if caught in time.  If not caught in time the bearings are toast so the car is junk.  I will never sell the car and will pass it on to my son so it's not sensible to ignore the issue.  It's an excellent vert and drives fantastic so it will be make for a nice 35 year old vehicle providing it never sees winter and it's parked under cover (roof).

I haven't looked into the DEX-COOL thing for a few years, but I'm not concerned. Pretty sure it's not an issue anymore, as long as you don't go crazy long on the change interval.

The Yukon has been running DEX-COOL since new, and I haven't felt the need to switch. Apparently, if you do switch, you need to do a very, very thorough rinse to get all the DEX-COOL out. If there's any DEX-COOL left, apparently that's even worse when you mix it with the other stuff.

Just checked, and I had a coolant change done on the Yukon after four years, and then again after another four. Five years would probably be the absolute max you'd want to go on that, IMO.

Oil change for the Prime.

Oil extractor is a wonderful thing. Car is supposed to take about 4.5L. And that's what the graduations said.

The issue with Dex-cool at one time was it used to degrade gaskets LOL

Remember those good times, Steve? [emoji2]

Yeah, I think GM changed the gasket material a decade or so ago, so that's not an issue anymore.

Okay, did some more reading and seems like the Dex-Cool issue is well and truly over: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/has-the-dexcool-problem-been-resolved.306947/  I might even go to five-year intervals on the Yukon after all.  ;)

The cars I have owned since 2003  (except the 2 Fits)  have all used that euro G8 coolant that comes in a color somewhere between pink and purple.   Always been difficult to find outside the dealers although I noticed crappy had some last fall.

From what I have been able to find out it is compatible with some aluminium alloy the the euro engines are often made of.

The Fits use a colourless coolant... but as neither of them have ever needed even the smallest topup  I have never researched it.

Winterized/stored the Aston. 2/5 done now... probably do the Camry in the next couple days as well, as well as the R8. M5 will be the last, probably by this time next week.

I had intake gaskets go in my Sonoma (4.3L) due to Dexcool degradation TWICE! On the second time I converted to regular old green coolant and it's been fine since. By the mid-2000's though I am very confident that the Dexcool saga was over....I am running it in the Escalade, DTS, Firebird, and the XKR (factory fill is Dexcool equivalent) and have had no issues, but I also change it every 3 years.

I dunno about oil extractors. If it's a Subaru then it sure makes sense as the oil filter is right there. But in this case you'd need to jack up the car anyway so wouldn't be easier to just drain the oil normally? (and install a fumoto valve along the way ;) )

Drive up ramp. Yank filter, done. Pretty easy.

Ya, I could drain the oil while under there..but like the extractor vs. Oil drain pan.

Plus it's easier to empty the used oil (extractor has a nice spout). Cleaner overall too. Always seem to get oil on my gloved hands doing it the "old" way.

I'll continue doing it this way moving forward..and definitely on the Audi where the filter is accessed from the top.

Well, if it (the extractor method) works why fix it  :)

I was about to ask a question but realized in time that you can go up and down the ramps on electric power, without having to start the engine. That's pretty convenient  :D

did an oil change and winter tire swap on the Lexus, spark plugs this week need gaskets for the throttle body.

Took the Z3M for a good run today.  It was cool out but nice and sunny.   Likely the last one for the season and it allowed the stabilizer I put in a few days ago to run through the system.  The rear tires are quite worn now and that combined with the cool weather made it really easy to get the ass out on a couple of occasions.  My wife loves that part!  >:D ;D

I'll wash it later in the week and then put it under cover.

You own an R8 as well! Sweet! Where’s the show and shine for that? Or am I the dunce and missed it?

My car wouldn't start after work on Friday. Turn the key and just a click... I just replaced the battery a couple of months ago so didn't suspect it was the batter. Tried to boost it anyways and it started.  I thought that was a bit strange... Threw on the battery charger when i got home. Tried to start again today, just a click... Turns out it was just a loose terminal. The hole where the bolt goes through to clamp the terminal had become enlarged (i guess from age) and wasn't holding it tight anymore. Put a washer on and tightened it down again. Love an easy 2 minute fix.
