Will be doing that shortly for the Lexus.

Yeah, it's that time of year....I usually wait another few weeks then I'll get the Caddies sprayed.

I started in on getting cars ready for the storage season.....Changed the oil in the T/A and greased all the points on the front end. Gave the Sonoma it's annual bath + a coat of wax.

Looks good firm!

I kind of tried my first brake torqued launch on AMG yesterday.

Empty flat country side road, foot on brake and accelerator, 2k rpm launched.

Little bit of wheelspin and it took off.

Pretty quick.

Took the SS 1LE out on a track for a lapping day last Sunday.

First time doing anything bigger than an AutoX and so I spent the morning learning about track etiquettes. Got some good(for a complete noob) runs in the afternoon. The PDR worked pretty well on picking up performance data.

This is where I also really understand how the Camaro has a lot of hype for its handling. GM really earned it.

That’s great! Where’d you go? I thought you lived in Ft. Mac, and that sure doesn’t look like Ft. Mac.

Looks like the Okanagan, but not that track in Osoyoos? Didn’t know there were others. So, where is it? Might have to plan a road trip!

Also just heard they’ve finally started construction on that new track north of Airdrie. [emoji106]

Nah I moved back to Victoria, so I went to the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit.

I drove back to BC in my SS 1LE which was also great fun, but yeah I needed that lapping day to really stretch the legs and get to know my car.

Changes the oil, transmission oil, air filter and cabin filter in the Civic. Last oil change was over 10 months ago, normal time between changes is ~6 months but WFH put a big dent in km's driven this year.

For transmission oil changes, I've been using a fluid transfer pump like this one for many years,

It works well enough but man is it messy, any suggestions for a different method/product? The transmission has a drain plug and fill plug on the side with no way to get a funnel in the fill hole.

^^ Dunno if there’s an easier way to drain, but for filling in that situation I’ll put a length of tubing on the end of a funnel and then snake it down from the engine bay to the fill hole.

Did you have the traction control turned off too? I find with mine even just matting it off the lights causes the rear tires to spin with the traction control turned off, no need to brake torque even. I went for a wider tire in the rear now hoping to get more grip, but it's not much better  ;D

I have a big (500ml, I think) syringe with a length or clear line on the end of it. It's not totally clean, but I like it better than the transfer pump (which I also have, but really only use for gasoline).
Heli's suggestion is also good, provided you've got some access from above....if not (like a rear differential) anything gravity fed is a no-go.

When I had the Tundra at my Indy for the oil change last week, he told me that the cabin air filter needs replacing, and the battery terminals need to be cleaned up.  So I ordered a filter off Amazon, as well as some battery terminal spray that I can use to protect the terminals and prevent additional corrosion after I wirebrush and clean them up.

I’ve never tried it, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work on a rear diff. Yeah, you’d have a run of hose horizontally out to the side or back of the vehicle, but as long as the fill point is higher than the end point, it should still flow.

I'll be on the lookout for a big syringe. Most of the mess comes from the hoses after I'm done filling as they are still full of fluid and need to be drained. Also the end that was in the bottle is coated on the outside with fluid and drips as well.

Snaking in a hose from the top could work, although I think I would end up wasting more fluid as I can't see the fill hole from above.

Thanks for the suggestions!

You'd definitely need a second person and a very long hose to gravity feed something like a rear diff.

Something like this is what I have....Looks like it comes in a variety of sizes.

^^ Wow, that is crazy! No idea they made them that big, but that would be handy to have around.

I grab mine from the vet when we’re in there with the dog. Prob only 50 ml, though, and they charge like $6-8 for them. You’d think they’d throw in a couple as a freebie after I’ve dropped a couple hundred bucks on a simple annual dog checkup, but no.  ::)

Might have to go syringe shopping on Amazon now.  ;D

You're doing the hard way.  Buy a marine lower end pump.  Screw device on whatever bottle of fluid your wanting to inject and pump.  Zero mess and it's fast.  You can empty a 1 litre bottle in 30 seconds.

Got after some rust on the Yukon today. Pretty much all four fenders, but just took pics of the worst one.

Not trying for anything fancy, just want to keep the rust at bay for a few a more years. Hoping for another decade, but we’ll see how she goes.

I did get a few coats of primer and paint on today, but didn’t snap any pics. Forgot to sand in the primer, so looks a little ghetto right now. Will take final pics tomorrow when it looks slightly less ghetto. :)

Prep work looks fantastic. That color is going to be hard to blend, but it's certainly better than letting the rust grow. As a tip; next time brush on primer, a few coats just on the bare metal area, then a light sanding before spraying the final color. Helps to minimize, or eliminate, the transition ridge between the bare metal and the factory paint, and reduces the paint line where you've taped.

yeah, when I am doing a metallic color like that I do what I suggested above for the primer (no need to tape since you're brushing). Then, before I spray the color I tape off about 2-3" away from the area, and use a piece of thin carboard as a blocker while spraying holding it (the cardboard) maybe a 1/2" away from the body...this way you to get enough paint on the area you want it, and a light overspray about 3" out around the area. Gently watersand and compound the whole area to cut the overspray back off the 'good' paint, then mask like 4" out and spray your clear using the same technique.
It'll never been *perfect* but I've done some where you'd be really hard pressed to tell if you didn't know. Maybe next time I'll do a video or something because it is really hard to describe without seeing/showing. It is a super time consuming process though, and you need the vehicle essentially off the road and somewhere dry for at least a few days....which can be tough.

Edit: What I'd do with yours since I assume you've sprayed primer to the tape line, is remove the tape, and wet sand (use something like 1000 grit, maybe 800 if you're daring) the primed area carefully to knock down the ridge you're going to have at the tape line. Use a small block (I like to use a standard white eraser) with your wet paper and do your best to keep it on the primed area. Should be able to smooth it out like that...ideally, you want the entire primed area flush with the 'good' paint. Then mask a little further out and do as a described above with the color and clear.

Good luck! I find body work like this interesting because it's a challenge, but rewarding when you get it right (for me at least).....but also very frustrating when it doesn't go your way.
