Got the Jag out of storage today and gave it a quick clean.  :)

For some reason I thought you were getting rid of the Jag?

I'm putting it on the market but i figured I better get it out and cleaned up before I did.

Didn't you just get it a couple of years ago after a long and exhaustive search?  Why sell it so soon?  Did it not meet expectations?

Bought a 2 5/16", 16 000lb hitch ball to go on my 11 000lb receiver in preparation for this weekend.  Now the weak link between the trailer and the truck will be the truck itself.

Sort of a case of "well, I've scratched that itch" I guess. I wanted one for a long time but after getting one it was "oh, OK"
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

Gave the Enclave it's first waxing.  Prior to waxing I treated it with Autoglym Magma and I was shocked to see how much iron oxide was on the paint.

Wax on, wax off...very therapeutic.  Happy that our DD's are finally cleaned up after a messy winter. :)

Just a question. Did you use the Magma on the Malibu as well ? If not why ? That crap on your white paint in theory should be on your red car  as well.

I wonder what others think of this especially the diehard detailers. It comes up quite often how white cars are so difficult to keep clean. When in reality the non white vehicles are are actually dirtier.

I never found white that hard to keep clean compared to dark colours

Silver is still the best.  Haven't washed the Civic in over a month now, and you can't really tell.

White hides dust really well. Dirt and mud will show more though which isn't much of a problem for city folk.

So, both the van and BMW are still on winter tires / rims. I usually have a shop do it for me, but I think its time to start doing it myself, or at least have the equipment to be able to do it myself:)

Anyway, what do you guys / gals suggest I buy to properly do this job? Jacks stands? Torque wrench, etc.? Thanks
I love it when a plan comes together.

If you're just taking a wheel off at a time, you don't really need axle stands IMHO, just don't get under the car.  Torque wrench, breaker bar, and impact driver will make quick work of it.

Jack stands aren't necessary, but a proper floor jack is. The little bottle jack that comes with the car is a PITA to use, and for emergencies only IMO.

Torque wrench is nice to have as well, but once you've done it a few times you'll get the feel of it and might not need to bother. I usually snug mine up with a breaker bar, then go back with the torque wrench to double check and it's always pretty much spot on.

Arcan jack from Costco is a great value:

You can always use one of the tires/rims under the car for safety. I would have to jack my car really high (low profile) in order for jack stands to fit underneath.I personally use a scissor jack in addition to the service jack as a backup.

Awesome, thanks for the tips and suggestions. Time to go shopping. Last time I did my own wheel changeover was a loooong time ago. I like the floor jack idea as well.

Yes get a large floor jack. I usually jack two wheels up at a time which really cuts down the time. On the Ridgeline it has center jack points front and rear which allow both fronts or both rears to come up. Very handy if placing jack stands. On the Land Rover they have center points marked on the frame so I can jack the entire side in the air.

I was gonna do the wheel and tire changeover on the Clubman over the weekend but then I ended up getting my finger bit while breaking up a dog fight. Had to get a few stitches to I'm a bit too handicapped to do that kind of manual labor right now.  :-\

Yikes. For future reference you break up a dog fight with your foot or a 3' stick.

If you're looking for a floor jack make sure it fits under your sportscar.     I have to drive up on 2"x8"s  to get a jack under the 911.

When I was shopping, it was a real struggle to find something that was both low enough to fit under my lowered Civic and also went high enough to lift our Xterra. All those sleek aluminum jacks were great for the car, but just wouldn't go high enough for an SUV. The only one I found that would work for both was a 3.5 ton Michelin jack, which unfortunately also feels like it weighs 3.5 tons.  :P

It's a pain to drag around, so now I mostly use a really cheap and crappy (but light) 2-ton jack from Cdn. Tire, which fits fine under the GTI.

Also make sure it's long enough.  Mine is too short to place under the jack points of the Lexus, so I have to jack the front wheels one at a time using the side rails jack points.  I can just get to the rear one but it takes a while to jack up because the bar doesn't have much travel room at first.  Haven't tried it on the truck yet.
