It's done  :-[

Truck is on Layup.  It doesn't move from our driveway for at least a couple of months now.  Who knows, if camping season gets cancelled this year, it could stay on Lay-up until the fall.

I think I'll do the same for the Cayenne, hasn't moved in at least 2 weeks.    Still have the Outback and the pickup and the bikes, so plenty of rides, nowhere to go. :(

Might put coverage back on the Miata if it ever warms up.

We're not sure.  They're mailing out the paperwork.  We don't actually owe anything more until we renew in August.  We're getting a credit for the rest of the month that we didn't use, and apparently that's enough to cover the layup insurance for the rest of the year.  So, cheap?

I did not.  Full tank though.  If camping season comes as normal, or is only delayed a month or two, it should only be a few months that it doesn't move.

I have some holes in the bumper I can't think of a good way to fill. Maybe a custom novelty plate?

Just get some push in trim screws...they're usually black. Paint with touch up. Done.

They look somewhat like this.

My Pilot is black and I was planning to remove the front plate this spring.  So these would be perfect.  Sorry if I'm dense, but how do you know what size to buy?

The e-tron is around 500$ per year, with two young drivers (18 and 21) and new value replacement for 5 years. All the personal injury stuff in Quebec with our no-fault system is through the govt (SAAQ). When I bought the car in 2017 with no young drivers but two adults, I was in the 400's.

Alright, in the interest of transparency, and to show how expensive insurance is here, this is an estimate complete with the optional coverage that we have (had) on the truck.  The numbers included our 25% discount that we have earned due to merits (33% is the highest).

Our optional coverage is:
$200 deductible ($500 standard)
$5 Million 3rd party liability ($200 000 standard)
Loss of use (to get a rental car should we lose use of the truck for an insurance related reason)
New vehicle Protection (full replacement value up to 2 years after purchase of a new vehicle)
Excess Value (related to new vehicle protection, because our vehicle is worth more than $50 000 after tax, so we have to pay extra)

The caveat here, is that the price doesn't change depending on who starts driving it.  If my 18 year old stepson was interested in driving and wanted to learn, I wouldn't need to 'add' him to our policy at an outrageous cost, he could just drive the truck anytime he wanted to (following the restrictions on this license, of course).  Anybody who holds a valid drivers license can legally drive our truck (with our permission) at any time and be fully covered.

I created an estimate for Lay-up insurance, and it came out to $393/year, but only because we still have 'new vehicle protection'.  Without 'new vehicle protection' it would be $141/yr for lay-up.  Our 'new vehicle protection' policy expires in November of this year, so we'll stop paying it then.

The Civic is better than the truck, albeit still more expensive than most of you on here.  $133/month, and that's with no options other than $1 000 000 Liability.  We went with basic insurance on the car, $500 deductible, etc.

I pay $118 per month in Ottawa with combined home discount for a 2012 128i. 30 y/o M, 1 million liability, $500 deductible, accident forgiveness, rental, etc. Am I paying too much?

That seems pretty reasonable.

A box from Rock Auto showed up. A set of rear sway bar links for the Land Rover. I picked these because they had zerk fittings. They still make serviceable suspension pieces!

They generally only come in 3 sizes. At least that is all I have ever seen. The smallest ones also have a small head. I put these in the out of Province trade-ins we get. You just have to enlarge the screw hole with a drill bit.

took a long drive in the merc yesterday.

it was kind of a nice day, 11 degrees, with no snow in the forecast for the next week or so with double digit weather.

left the top up for the highway, and down once i was back in the city.

it was nice.  drove by the shortest tunnel you can imagine (not really a tunnel, bridge for road overhead), and floored it for 1 second.   it was LOUD.  i may have heard backfire barking at the end, but i may be mistaken.

anyway.   there were all kinds of nice cars out and about yesterday afternoon.

i think i saw new McLaren 720 too far to tell for sure but it was fast, and bunch of porsches (cayman gt4 for sure), etc.

overall, good drive.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

I drained the battery in the Sonata by leaving two interior lights on.   ::)

But, I was saved by the Stanley 500 amp battery booster!

Then I drove to my brother's to fully charge the battery with this!
