Oil change and full brake job: pads, rotors, fluid flush. Good for the next 5 years.

Found a reputable Indy around me so saved some $$ vs dealer. More $$ to the Porsche fund :)
4 years and 10,000 km , that is a lot of work  ;D

Actually 5 years now and 36,000 km. It’s basically underuse of the brakes combined with the car sitting at the train station in the winter. A bit of rust takes a toll and unfortunately my driving style and short commute never give the brakes a chance to set in.

I had the same issue with my Camry. It’s the price I pay I guess.
I love it when a plan comes together.

Nice!

I've considered doing that with the TDI since diesels can take forever to warm up.

Why getting rid of the Cooper?

Replaced the 10 year old Toyo winter tires on the CRV with new X-ice Xi3.

Something major better not break now! A bit of a gamble putting new tires on a 18 year old vehicle with well over 300,000 km

Live downtown now and no need for two cars.

Great tires, we're running those on our Subaru.

I've never had a problem selling tires on Kijiji, so I wouldn't sweat that.

not today, but replaced the 12 year old front tires on the SLK.
got new pirelli Pzero ASPlus on the rims.

also, cleaned the rims since it was off.  I have NEVER in my life seen so much brake dusk caked on the rims before.

i used brake clean on one, and Dawn dishsoap mixed with car wash on the other.

both came out pretty clean, but brake clean worked better.  i couldn't breath in the garage with the fumes, so used dawn instead later.

Do it!  Car warms up more quickly and maintains it operating temperature more easily.

I have to use brake cleaner to clean the brake dust off my aftermarket winter wheels for the Lexus.   Never seems to be much of a problem cleaning the OEM wheels.  Must be the shittier finish on the aftermarkets.  Brake cleaner is rank. Luckily i did it when it was still quite warm and was able to do it outside.

Are the tires worth more than the vehicle?

I've never had a problem selling tires on Kijiji, so I wouldn't sweat that.

The CRV has been making a noise ever since we changed an axle and a couple wheel bearings.

Now that was a couple years ago, and it's been running perfectly fine since then. Looking things up, it appears that CRV's of that generation are sensitive to non OEM replacement axles, so it might just be a minor balance issue

But yeah, we could sell the tires on I'm sure if the worst happens

Comes back to the Arthur Dent vehicle scale I guess, with current economic times change how you look at what is a clunker and what isn't

I'd be using disposable gloves if cleaning with brake cleaner to that degree. Effective but gross.

I bought new tires for the TSX in the summer so same gamble for me.

Not today, but in the fall I bought a set of Russian made Pirelli Ice Zero FR for our other oldie, the 2004 Vibe.

They have been great so far, smooth and very grippy, good in a FWD non ABS vehicle. Seem noticeably better in grip than the old WS-70's they replaced

Hit 210,000 km on the way to work.  Whoo hoo...right?   Every 10,000k marks another step towards....lots.  Time for a celebration.  Maybe I'll get the starter lubed again (dry lube - it's sticking to the ring gear again...ring-a-ling-a-ding-ing until it warms up  ::) :P)

Yesterday, took the SLK for a stroll in the neighborhood for the first time since i picked it up.

residential side roads are still covered in snow, but most main roads are dry, and i've been itching to go for a drive for a while.  and also i have to check the balance of the front tire.

got home, took dog for a walk, put the top down, with wife in the car for the first time ever, and went for a drive.

it was balmy +3 degree, and airscarp on with heated seats on, it wasn't really cold in the car even with the top down.

the car still feels very heavy to me, but yesterday was the first time i floored the thing.

it sounds like a gurgling chewbacca.   made me laugh out loud.

wife noted that the car feels heavy and solid once you are inside, even though it looks tiny from outside.

the headlights are very dim though.  i don't think it's HID, and even HIDs pale in comparison to LED lights on the lexus..

I guess you're just used to modern LED lighting.  It's amazing how far it's come in the last decade.
