The winter rims from the Passat do not fit the Jetta.

Dropped it off at Autohaus this morning to get a recall done. Asked them to swap the winter tires while it was in. Oh well.

The little bit of snow we got this morning meant that the shuttle from the VW place to work took an hour.

I'm so glad I can walk to work. I'd go bonkers sitting in that regularly.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

You didn't research beforehand to see if you could use them or if you'd need to buy new ones?  :o

I did. Got conflicting information on the GLI. It uses the Golf R calipers, so a bit of an oddball.
I figured, I'd give it a shot and see.

Had the winter tires for the Highlander mounted onto Kijiji Toyota steelies. I was going to keep swapping the summer and winter tires into the OEM wheels but it's such a pain to get them done and Costco raised their prices.  For the Ottawa folks, a few Canadian Tire locations have $15 & $30 off their installations for tires on rims and not on rims, respectively.

Also gonna change out the Highlanders oil and transmission fluid. I had accidentally bought 5W-20 and can't return it. I did some googling and in 2006 Toyota released a TSB saying that the 3MZ was compatible with 5W-20.

Yesterday I'd also noticed that the oil plug area was wet. I was able to give it a solid 1/4-1/2 turn so I'm assuming that's why. I'll keep an eye on it after I've changed the oil.

Escalade day today; washed, waxed, leather treated, baby seat upgraded, drainage holes cleaned (all along the inner rockers), door jams waxed. Oil spray booked for Friday and she's ready for another winter.

Put the winters on Saturday, but hadn't driven it since.  On the way to work, damn, I swear you can feel the lack of that extra 15 lbs per tire/wheel over the summer tires.  It just feels more...spritely.

The snow on the roads melted almost the next day.  I will hold off installing my winters until at least after Halloween, unless another big snowstorm is forecast before.

Walked over to get the Jetta on Saturday morning. Lots of broken trees everywhere. Soupy snow made it a bit of a trudge.

But the Jetta with snows is a beast. The limited slip front end makes a huge difference. The taller and softer sidewalls made a noticeable difference in compliance. Practically plush now, though it wasn't exactly a buckboard to begin with.

Drove the 951 to work this morning... and boy does it love the cold dense air (temp was 6ºC), pulls like a freight-train... the tires, they're not a big fan of the temperature at first, once I got some heat in them they seemed better  ;D

I figured, I'd give it a shot and see.

I had researched that prior to my Golf > A3 move. 15" won't fit GTI/A3/GLI brakes, so I kept the TDI on its winter alloys until buy-back time (in July!). The Golf's 16 inchers are now my winter wheels, and they barely clear the front calipers.

I bought this in April or May - finally arrived and ready. Its got big, stupid 20" rims but otherwise decent.
