Good couple of days, trying to soak in the last long weekend of summer...

Replaced some sketchy looking vacuum lines on the XKR and then fitted the rear-facing baby seat....Luckily Mrs.Firm is short because the front passenger seat needs to be all the way forward, but it works. Took it for a nice drive to Mrs.Firm's favorite bakery in Oakville and then along lakeshore to the weekly car show at the CTC on the Queensway. Nice night and probably the most time I've spent driving it since bringing it home.

This morning I tackled the spark plugs and wires on the Escalade. 258K and I don't know when they were done, so I wanted to do them for peace of mind. The plugs that came out looked pretty decent, but the wires were heat baked and there was some corrosion on the terminals, so glad I did it. Not particularly difficult, but probably 70% of the time was spent wrestling to get the old wires off the old plugs.

I also took the wiper arms off the Escalade and painted them, between the sun damage and stone chips there were looking a little tired.

Then I had bought this set of MGB wheels and tires for $200 off kijiji a couple weeks ago to go on the Chartreuse car since the tires on it are all terrible, mismatched and not holding air. So I got these out and gave them a good cleanup...$200 was a steal for these with nearly new tires and rust free rims

Every single time I do wires/plugs on LS engine I wind up with skinned knuckles. They're a real PITA to remove when they've been on a long time.

Jag looks great BTW!

Yep, I have one knuckle that's took a good beating, just one though. That damn heat shield on the manifold is sharp!

I am still working through an 'extreme detail' on the Jag, but it's getting there. I have one door jamb left to do, the entire engine bay and underside of the hood, and I need to pull the wheels off to do the backsides, the brakes and the wells.  Now though it's at least at a point where I can enjoy it, and I'll tinker with the rest as time allows.

^That's actually not unreasonable. Fuel filters on a lot of cars thesedays are not simple to replace, being buried in the fuel tank.

Heh. It's right up front and easy to get to on a TDI since it's a regular maintenance item (every 30k km).

The quote for the fuel filter change was "$200 at the most, it should be lower".  That is pretty absurd since it's like fifteen minutes of maintenance and I can get the filter for ~$40 online.  When the powertrain warranty is up I'll likely start doing it myself.

The oil change price of $110 is actually pretty reasonable since buying the oil, filter and o-rings would run over $80.

Do you go to Myers? I find bytek has been crazy expensive and their service pretty shitty.

I did go to Meyers.

Hunt Club had the DSG service special.

I’ve never heard much good about Bytek.

So I ordered new brakes for the Tercel a while ago. Figured Saturday was a good day to get it done. Rockauto shipped me one rotor and one drum. Urgh.  ???

Had it with the non functional roof rails on the JGC!! I made them work in the winter, just was never a fan of the set up. So I ordered new rails & a Mopar rack, used a few connections to get it shipped up for free from the States & duty free!! Waaayyyyy cheaper than buying at the dealership here in Ottawa.

A few pics & one of the old set up.

Drivetrain is back in after 5 years
Nice!  More pow-uh? ;)

Just started it!!

Runs like crap on 5 year old gas, but it's running.

Now I have to change into clean clothes and check out the gearbox, which was the reason the drivetrain was out, it went kablooey way back and I finally got around to fixing the car.

Man, nice work Blur...That's a serious job, hopefully the gearbox is good to go and you're back on the road.

I made some good progress on the Chartreuse MGB today, and gave the T/A a good exterior detailing for Oblivion (80/90's car show) tomorrow.

Running a little smoother, goes forward and backward on it's own power,  still have to adjust the clutch.

The bad news, an oil leak.
At first I was scared it was the rear main seal, but then found it to be coming  from the top.  So, it's probably the oil thermostat housing or the oil pressure switch.  I've done the switch before, it's a PITA, but doable, I dunno about the housing.   I stuck my endoscope in and found it was leaking up there, but couldn't really see if it was the switch or housing, they are next to each other.

Found the intake leak on the Mini, the airbox tube was held on by a zip tie at the throttle body. Not a great seal to say the least. Fixed, lets hope that is the end of my P2096 code.

Detailed the Alfa, now waiting for a good morning to go for a blast on some twisties.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

World's most boring movie time, which side will the leak come from?
....stick around for the incredible climactic scene

Looks like dropping the engine, at least partially, is in order to replace the O-ring.
Of course everything I'm reading now is saying to replace that O-ring if the engine is out, because it will eventually leak in an old engine.
Live and learn...
