I unintentionally ended up on some rural roads, even off the main départemental. And now I like the car again.

Deep in the mountains and farmlands of the Doubs (25), it was dozens of km between villages, with excellent scenery and just.....cows and deer in pasture. Nary another car. Flowing roads with gentle curves. And no radar.

I squirted the car in gears 3-4-5, keeping the revs on the boil and finally, finally having the space to use the full pedal travel of the accelerator. Just flowing between 70-110; slingshot between curves and the occasional town, no need to go faster. This isn't a hot hatch after all. And it felt wonderful.

But it should, as this is the area where Peugeot was born, and where my 308 was built. So of course, the suspension, drivetrain, felt wonderful. Unlike German cars, French cars work in the real world, not a race track.

Then I got back onto the RN53. "Pour votre sécurité, contrôles automatiques fréquents".....next 27km  :banghead:

My car continued to guide me down some euhh......interesting routes départementales on the way to Salins-les-Bains in the Jura (39). Basically look a straight line thru the countryside.

But sure, why not. Put it in mode dynamique, scrubbed some rubber off the front tires (not too much, gotta keep my bicycle on the rack out back !), enjoyed the 2,2 bar of boost and 285 Nm while enjoying the compliant, comfortable suspension. At 90 km/h or as fast as was prudent given some hill crests and the fact it's a single lane road. Had to dart to make room for a motard around a blind curve.

The road kept getting smaller and smaller until it ended up like this : ("putain t'es fou" )

Then upon approach, the D65 had a breath taking view of the vallée de furieuse, then plunged straight down into the vallée.....

It's really rare I have an environnement to really enjoy the car........and even tonight I have a garage for it at the B&B in Besançon ! So it's off the street and the rain tonight :)

Roads built for the Amish...light on traffic and no cops...seems like a good combination for fun times.  The scenery is definitely better than anything you'll get in Manitoba.

Scored a super-clean set of 16" 2017 Accent GLS alloys / all-season tires for the daughter's 2014 Accent - Kijiji find. Had to drive to the boonies but worth it  :)

I fairly easily removed one nut and bolt.   The other five, not so much...

Exhaust bolts are the worst bolts. :(

Exhaust bolts are the worst bolts. :(

The last two took me almost 2 hours of plinking at it.
I was going to shop for fancy exhaust bolts to replace, but the delivery time on copper plated nuts was a bit long.   I have regular plated 8.8 bolts and nuts and I think I'll just use them,  maybe with Nord-lock washers.
I did this same job a bit over 20 years ago, I'm replacing it with stainless so I doubt I'll have to do it again. (watch me come back to this thread in 25 years cursing my decision)

Back when I had my YJ, LadyO and I had driven way out some logging road in Carlton county. When we got to the woodyard, a couple of enormous work horses wandered over and stuck their heads in the car looking for snacks. I think we did happen to have a couple of apples in our lunch kit. After the apples and a scratch on the nose, they wandered back into the shade.

I have to ask, are you familiar with this web site? http://www.dooryard.ca

Looking through that, I came across Howard She Goin, which reminded me of our days at UNB, cranking the HowArd Brook Band, much to the annoyance of them upper Canadians on our floor.

I used copper based antiseize on exhaust bolts. The grease cooks off, but the copper (or whatever it is) seems to stay and keep things from locking up solid

Good car day today.

Help my dad get his old STS outta storage and running (I put the photos in my DTS thread if anyone is curious).

Then I got my Blue MGB running. The carb had been off since last year when I took it off to rebuild; put it all back together, gave it a quick tune and spun it around the block a few times. Got some fresh gas in it too.

Washed the Escalade for the first time since the beginning of summer...It's been so dry here that it's stayed pretty clean, just dusty. Then took it out to run some evening errands, Mrs.Firm drives this much more than I do, or if I am driving it's with her and the baby, so I am distracted. Driving it alone for the first time in a long time reminded me why this thing is so good.....Rides great, super comfy, but still feels like a real truck, the 6.0L pulls strong and sounds good too. Oh, and the stereo is fantastic.

Finished the night by changing the tube for the coolant expansion tank in the Jag that had sprung a tiny leak...Good thing I have skinny arms and fingers because it's tight quarters. Also replaced a burnt out license plate bulb.

Yesterday, helped my kid put a hitch on the Mustang.  Who says you can't tow with a manual and 420 HP's? His friends dad figured he was an effing idiot (ahh gotta love school friends and arsehole dads).  And, everything worked.  Bit of a PITA taking the muffler clamps off, and the hangers could use a little tweaking (it was designed with factory mufflers installed, not Roush), but it all fit in the end.  Bonus now there's an attachment point if he ever goes into a ditch face first.

Which we wall know he will, because Mustang.

But only if there's a crowd of people standing in the ditch.   :rofl2:

Speaking of towing over the weekend I saw a Toyota Echo sedan towing a tow dolly with a first generation Miata on it.
