Most shops here charge $40-50 to resurface a brake disc. With many cars the discs cost about that, so why both her?

Really 2000 it used to be like 7$ a disk at auto part

This is a machinist doing it not some pimply teenager at the auto parts store lol. If quality discs for the Landrover were not $150-$200 each then I would not bother either.

When we had an Acura the dealer had an on-car brake lathe.  It was actually really cool to watch.

My Fusion's rotors were $100-150 a pop at the dealer...or $149 for everything at Maxbrakes.  Hard to argue that...and if they suck or only last 2-3 yrs, it's still cheaper to do it through them again. And they looked way too rusty to lathe.  But, maybe they weren't.  Never asked.

You had your first set of rotors cut when you were 15?  Wow... :o You are...old

(I kid...you're from a car crazy family, you probably got rotors cut for your 5th birthday...Wow!  :bounce: Cool dad!  - because you've obviously got a cool dad)

Actually, now that I think about it....Yes, at 15 I was working in the shop at my local Canadian Tire, and we had a brake lathe, which I was using...But I don't think we were charging like $25 a cut then.

Agreed.

I was thinking about this a bit more and the DTS has had a very slight, but noticeable vibration between 90-105km/h...It started sometime in the winter, I thought it was ice in the rims, but it has been persistent. I haven't cared much because the way traffic flows around here I am usually driving way below that speed, or well above. Anyway, I was thinking *maybe* the wheels being out of balance slightly caused some uneven rotor contact.
So today I had the wheels re-balanced, which took care of the vibration thing....Now we'll wait and see if the rotors wear in even or not.

Wife drove her Outback up to Miramichi twice this week, so it really needed a wash.  Gave it a rinse with the pressure washer, the tried out the foam cannon and let the soap work for a few minutes.  A hand wash then a pressure washer rinse and the whole thing might have taken 15 minutes.  Doubt I’ll do an automated car wash at all this summer given how quick that was.  Even had time to clay the car and still not spend more than about an hour on the job.

Next week I’ll wash it again and then use the Meguairs spray wax everyone’s raving about here.

Finally got the winter tires off today. Not because I needed to keep them on this late, just that I’ve been busy and hadn’t gotten around to it. And I’ll be needing new winters next fall, so didn’t care about extra wear on these ones.

Overall, I was happy with them (Blizzak WS80): 34,000 km over five winters, and they are just barely past 6/32” tread remaining. I thought it might have been a stretch to run them for that fifth winter, but they were perfectly fine.

If there’s no new latest-and-greatest winter tire out next fall, I’ll probably just get another set of the WS80s. But I’m curious about Continentals and Pirellis, so will probably price those out too.

Oh, and my summer wheels are looking a little worse for wear. The paint has been flaking off in spots for a few years now, but seems particularly bad this spring. I’m not too bothered by it, though: the base coat / primer is black, and that seems to be staying on just fine. So it’s just cosmetic, and the metal remains covered.

They’re nine years old now, so I have no plans to fuss over them. I don’t mind how they look at all, TBH. It’s like a pleasing patina at this point. :)

The WS-80s on the Corolla are down to 5/32, so I'm leaving them on.  Their spring/summer performance is actually decent, good wet weather ability.  I'll probably just buy another set of WS-80s as they've been an excellent tire and were priced very well.  Amazing value.

Drove the Alfa in the rain.

The Firehawks performed extremely well, excellent grip in fast corners and onramps, plus no hydroplaning in the standing water.  :skid:
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

err yup!

the Mini's cat-back is still en-route and I needed to get across town. No way I am driving an exhaust-less Mini for 40 minutes each way. So a nice drive in the Alfa it is. She needed a wash anyways.

Yeah, I was tempted to leave them on as well. Since I knew they were done as winters, I even pushed them pretty hard this spring and was surprised at how not-terrible they are on bare and dry pavement.

But I figure I’ve got a sporty car and some sporty summer rubber, so may as well enjoy it to the fullest.

Dropped it off at the body shop to get the wee bit of rust taken care of before it become a weigh bit of rust.  It's still too pretty to let it start to look like I don't give a rip.

had to move some stuff this weekend... so got my sisters roof off her jeep, finally drove with mine down, and had to move the morgan around, so got it running and out for a rip. didn't need to do a damn thing. it sat untouched, not even a trickle on it over the winter, and just took the choke and a couple tries to get it going. grabbed the family some butter tarts, and back in the garage. oh, and took the jag today...

had that first world problem of, "man.. it's a nice day.. do I put the roof down on the jeep, or take the jag out?"
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now
