The Tercel is road legal and registered now. I drove it to work. It is actually a really nice, basic car. The engine has 345k kms on it but purrs like new. Amazing.

I once drove a 1980 Tercel across the Tantramar Marsh.  It's it the part of the Trans-Canada that connects NS to NB and is notorious for getting shut down due to high winds.  It was windy that day and was one of the scariest drives of my life.  :o  I literally thought we were going to blow over a few times.  It was really hard just to keep it between the lines and from sideswiping other vehicles.  At least yours is a little more aerodynamic.  Anyone who says a basic Toyota is a boring ride needs some seat time in an '80 Tercel.  ;D

I do remember it having a really sweet engine and drive-train for such a basic car.

So, with 7500kms, the Tundra went in to the dealer for its first service.  It's not so much a service, as an inspection, but it is required by Toyota.  I think the only thing they actually do is grease the driveshaft U-Joints.  Oil change intervals are every 16 000kms, or 1 year, whichever comes first, with the little 8000km inspection/grease in between.

They performed a few more things.  There were a couple of recalls from Toyota:  One had to do with the front radar sensor, and the other was an emissions related ECU update.

Finally, I've been having an issue with the Integrated Brake Controller.  When the trailer is plugged in, the IBC randomly loses signal, and thinks that the trailer isn't plugged in.  When this happens it beeps, and I don't have trailer brakes.  Then it will randomly reconnect again.  I mentioned this to them when I dropped the truck off, and they found a related TSB from Toyota that they went ahead and applied to the ECU.  I'll find out this weekend if it has fixed it.  I'm not too concerned by my little trailer not having brakes (the truck's brakes are more than large enough to haul everything back down in an emergency), but the beeping was annoying, and well, everything should work as intended on a new truck.

Anyways, total cost to me:  $0.  The first two services are covered by the dealership as amends for overspraying my truck when it was new.  The other items were covered under warranty.

Well, it was free for me this time, and I forgot to ask how much it usually is.  I'm guessing around $50?

It will certainly be the first service to get the axe when the warranty is up.  If it's a matter of greasing the U-joints every 8000kms, well, I can do that myself.  Although, good on Toyota for installing greasable U-joints.  It should make them last longer than non-serviceable ones.

Bought new wipers for the Fusion, $27 for both, Bosch.  I paid $45 for GM parts for the Sonic a couple of months ago... ::)  Sheesh...that was dumb.

How close is the Princess Auto to you? They sell that same tool as Firm mentioned a couple of posts back.

Cdn Tire is closer.  My friend works at Piston Ring/Auto Value, but it'll take 2 weeks to get the tool.  Looks like I'm heading to the city on the weekend.

2019s for sure and some 2018s have seal u-joints.

So on the 2019's, the 8k inspection is utterly useless.  One of the line items is literally 'check installation of floor mats'.

I wonder if it affects the warranty if I skip that service.

That's to avoid any sudden unintended acceleration incidents.  ;D  Those Toyotas are fatal when that happens.  :o

The only possible warranty problem would be something surrounding the brakes.

If it where me I'd be changing the engine oil @ 8K km and then do what you like after that up to the 16k km.

Tended to some needs the S2000 had. Replaced the catalytic converter and an o2 sensor, as well as fixed a small exhaust leak. Doing the ignition coils tomorrow (yay for Amazon Prime carrying the OEM Denso part!). Should fix the intermittent shuddering issue at idle...

Installed the front rotors and pads.  Pics...when I get to work.  Who has time to wait for pics to load when your speeds are less than a Trabant?

Much easier than the rear, retainer screws came out with almost not effort, able to push the caliper in no issue (though I do now have brake fluid on the floor, guess it overfills the reservoir?), only "tough" spot is the separation clips and holding the pads in place as you try to one hand the caliper back over the pads.  Seems to have worked...guess we'll see when/if I get the rear one's done right.

After having been pulled over by a Saratoga County Sheriff last night, I now have new license plate light bulbs 💡.

Not my car but for the Fiddy Run I helped get the scooter mounts put in the Previa van. We had to drop the gas tank which was smelly (a line stretched then leaked) and annoying. But they are in nice and solid.  8)
