The Highlander recently had some money dumped into it.

- New summer tires
- New lower control arms and ball joints
- Fresh synthetic diff fluid
- Front brake service
- An alignment

It's driving like a new car.

So I figured I'd give it a wash.

Friends of mine never used the one in their RAV4 and it broke because of it. Reason enough to at least use it intermittently.

Exactly.  I use it all the time, just to keep the mechanism from seizing up.  Come winter and given some of the places I need to park on occasion, it becomes a much needed part of the car.
I've never heard of a parking pawl in the tranny fail in my whole life.

Anyone else?
there is a recall/bulletin in GMC Canyons/Colorados IIRC for the pawl failure. Have had to get parts for 3 already.

Ok...I meant for a car that's not garbage and under recall.... ;D
you didnt specify, and you asked I answered

now you have heard of one

Sounds like the makings of a "Hinterland - Who's who" spot.  :rofl2: :rofl2:

The Common Highlander

The common Highlander (or Toyotus Domesticus Biggus) is a variant of the Soccus-Mommeridae family of wildlife.  Normally silver or other dull colour, it blends in well in its usual habitat of shopping mall parking lots.

Rear E Brakes.   The new frontier.  :P   How long will they last with road salt and how much to replace going forward.  How complicated and expensive just for regular brake service ???

https://www.autoserviceprofessional.com/article/100593/theres-no-stopping-the-electric-parking-brake
we have had to do a few so far, parts are about the same as doing other brake work - cables pads calipers etc.

More speaking to the newer no cable units that are part of the caliber that have their own ecu and require programming.

No, but they have all been close to there, so I just walk from there to my office. My new one is actually not downtown, but I'm temporarily downtown until I get a cubicle at the new place.

Did the front brakes on the GS-350 tonight.  Luckily i had bolts that fit the rotor perfectly so no banging away required to remove them.  Easiest brake job I've ever done.  This thing is built like a tank.  Nice big beefy parts to work with and straight forward design.  8)

Are those single use torque to yield caliper bolts?  I think they are...

I'm still not a 100% sure but i replaced them anyways.  I put thread locker on the new ones and torqued them to 60ft-lbs.  I doubt many service places even replace them.

You're supposed to IIRC, so good move...and they don't need thread lock on them if they're torque to yield.

But won't hurt anything...
