You should always use it automatic or not. If you don't it won't work when you need it too.

  AB

Nah.  Never need it.  Biggest hill here couldn't break the parking pin if it tried.  I have used it, can't remember when, but it has been used.  But 99% of the time, with an automatic, pointless.  I used to laugh at people who'd pull up at the mall when I was collecting carts as a kid and they pull up and you'd here the ratcheting sound - look in and they're driving an automatic. LMAO lololol...and all that.  Maybe if I lived in Golden or somewhere.  You hardly need to anchor your boats here it's so flat.   :P ;)

The Sonic has one that gets used reg but it's a real man's car.   O0

Friends of mine never used the one in their RAV4 and it broke because of it. Reason enough to at least use it intermittently.

Yup. I make a point to use mine fairly often in both cars.

Exactly.  I use it all the time, just to keep the mechanism from seizing up.  Come winter and given some of the places I need to park on occasion, it becomes a much needed part of the car.

I've never heard of a parking pawl in the tranny fail in my whole life.

Almost anywhere else

I think parts of SK might even be less flat than MB.

Anyone else?

When we were poor, fresh off the boat immigrants my parents had a K-Car, a fine Reliant automobile, my mom parked on a really steep parking spot and she could not get the car out of park. My dad had to take his Blazer and push the car forward to unload the pawl. Now, there was no failure, but after that situation, I use the parking brake on any car I drive in most situations out of habit.
Lighten up Francis.....

I'm guessing even if your mom used the parking brake it likely would have still happened depending how she engaged the parking brake.

Like if she put the car in park, removed her foot from the brake then engaged the parking brake, the pawl would have still had a load on it.

Also...I wonder what great tolerances were built into a K-Car tranny LOL

Rear E Brakes.   The new frontier.  :P   How long will they last with road salt and how much to replace going forward.  How complicated and expensive just for regular brake service ???

Replacing my windshield due to a lot of rock chips.
Price all in 944.
My cost is zero because of zero deductible glass policy that cost me 50 bucks a year.

there is a recall/bulletin in GMC Canyons/Colorados IIRC for the pawl failure. Have had to get parts for 3 already.

we have had to do a few so far, parts are about the same as doing other brake work - cables pads calipers etc.
