Maro out of storage today and went for a nice spin. One advantage of storing a car is the joy of the spring reveal. Almost like a new car every year.

Such an awesome machine.

Yeah its supposed to rain.  So it will get the wash!  ;)

Nah, it's back inside. I had 'stored' it for the winter....although I was lazy in the fall so all I really did was park it in the garage and toss a battery maintainer on it a couple times over the winter. I just took it out for it's first drive of the season, make sure it was all good.

Mrs.Firm isn't likely to use it much this year with the baby still in a rear-facing unit, so I'll probably pick some days to commute in it to keep it from just sitting.

Nonsense.  You lazy?  Not possible!

yeah Mango your 'Maro is "a symphony of evil" as Clarkson put it

enjoy the summer driving season in possibly one of the best cars for it
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

You claim you’re not old but you state temperatures in Fahrenheit.

I live near Michigan...all my weather news is in F....

Also my satellite TV is US....

Too lazy to covert. But more importantly, all my tire temperature range info came from the US manufacturer websites...

Oh it's not that I'm fearful. It's just the tires ( Michelin Pilot Super Sport), spin, spin, spin when the tires are below optimal...and are worse when it's damp.

So you end up having to drive more like an old lady...which isn't terribly amusing.

I remember from some years back there was a Yokohama summer tire, a pure summer  tire, that recommended that the winter storage  even should be over 55 F.   It wasn't a race tire, it had street legal tread.

The NHTSA even sent out a warning about one version of the tire I have...it starts to crack when below a certain temperature!

Traction on mine is definitely compromised in the 40s....

The forecast looks like crap for the rest of the week. Wait at least another week.

Took off the winter tires and put the summer ones back on this weekend...and I see now I need to get new pads in the back.  Which means I might as well replace the rotors, which means I might as well do all 4 corners.  Front pads are still closer to 100% than 50%, and that's with 197,000 km.  Back ones...hmmm...looking a little thin!

Anyone have any suggestions?  Stock or Cdn Tire/Piston Ring for rotors?  Any particular names to avoid and any that are superior?  Any Monroe Quickstrut equivalents to avoid?  Was thinking maybe Rock Auto, but kinda wondering if there wouldn't be some stupid tariff because "steel".  (my son ordered bolts for their pulling tractor in Engineering out of the US - they didn't ship them - 173% tariff; the nuts - duty/tariff free  ::) Got those)

What kind of pads?  Always see those ones that are green or yellow...but I don't race so would I or my car benefit?  Don't want brake dust, and the stock POS's don't do that.  And I guess they did, or could last the life of the car based on my apparent driving style.  Huh...then again taking off quickly doesn't use brakes, and I'm never in a rush to slow down.

I ordered parts from Rockauto recently.  Fast shipping, no tarrifs.

Rrocket had recommended the painted premium Centric rotors that and Wagner Thermoquiet pads.  No complaints.  But really, there's lots of options.

Changed the engine air filter on the 308. Was more annoying than I envisioned.

I had looked at some online tutorials, seemed okay. Except my GT variant of the THP engine has a larger intake tube and less space; the air filter is rammed back underneath the wipers and against the firewall. The screw for the hose clamp, obscured by a small reservoir. So ended up removing more screws and parts just to be able to access it.

Took an hour. And in classic Matt tradition, broke a couple plastic clips along the way  :rofl2:

Here's an old pic (looks nowhere this clean now lol). It sits nicely on top underneath the windscreen, held by 3 T-20 screws up front but there's not a ton of room to work nor to swivel the intake hose !

The Prince engine was co-developed with BMW/Mini, so the part is also shared and there's a lot of BMW connectors.......

That is a ridiculous location for a regular maintenance item.  The air filter should be checked every oil change.

Oh, wow. I thought my air filter was a PITA because there is a wire to be disconnected from a sensor  :o
In your case should a dealer say "it will be 300 euro" and you ask "Why" and they reply "coz you have to take half the car apart" it's not actually far from the truth  ;D

Ugh. What a lousy spot for it. It is a tight engine bay but they surely could have done better.
