The wheel hub got here today, so I installed it.

The old bearing(which is built into the hub) was so worn that when I turned it by hand, it was making clacking sounds.

The process wasn't difficult, just annoying due to all the rust. Had to pound the living crap out of the old hub with a hammer to get it to pop out.

Also lost the bolt that secures the traction control sensor in place. Taped it on, drove to Lordco and I was able to get a spare bolt.

A quick drive confirmed that the wobbling noise is gone. Yes!

Hey, can I give you a tiny little tip?  Instead of using WD40, get yourself a can of PB Blaster:
https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/pb-blaster-penetrant-0381510p.html

Spray it on the bolts/parts you want to take off, let it sit for an hour, and they'll come right off with out too much trouble.  The stuff is amazing!!!!  I'm sure Ron and others have another product that they swear by, but PB Blaster is what works for me!

But great work!  It is an amazing feeling to fix something yourself and save a ton of money by not going to a mechanic.

Great job, getting those hubs out is a pain in the ass!!! I second the PB blaster, that helps immensely as well!

Third for the PB Blaster - great stuff.

Good work though, rusty hubs can be a real pain at times.

Wheel bearings are always interesting.  What vehicle, what mileage, and how much did it cost if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks everyone, I will make sure to use PB Blaster next time.

It's for my own RX-8 w/96k km on the clock.

Dealer charged me CAN$300 for the part. If you go to US sources, prices vary from US$50 to $150. Probably won't trust the cheaper ones, and by the times the trusted ones get into Canada, it won't be much cheaper than the dealer. The thing is kinda heavy and probably costs to ship.

I have no idea why it's worn out this early, by the way. The only guess I have that kinda makes sense is that it received a shock from that raccoon I ran over at 65 km/h a while ago. Otherwise, I have no idea.

Just an FYI, The Timken bearing (a quality unit) would have been $180 CAD from Rock Auto. Including shipping and GST.  And they tend to arrive 3-4 days after placing an order.

So, not a huge savings but something to keep in mind for the future.

Rockauto would've been a great source, usually get their parts in 3 - 5 days max and would've cost you ~$150 CDN

^^^That's the great thing about this forum.  There's always somebody who knows a better way of doing something, and you'll know for next time, even if you didn't know this time.

These hub bearings are a puzzle.  Lost a front one in a 2016 Nissan Maxima @ 40K km.   ???   OEM thru dealer was about the same.

I don't blame you that you went with the OEM because fitment issues are not worth the huge aggravation if the bearing needs to be returned via shipping.  Usually they won't take in back because it will obviously be marked up.  Not to mention that you may have a vehicle sitting on jack stands for weeks in a place that you may need.

Decided to give Maxbrakes a try, as we are in the beginning stages of gathering parts for a restoration of IQs IS300.

Ordered Monday...arrived today.

So their shipping, at least, is very good!

What needs replacing?

Mechanical going over, mostly.  Has 370K on it.

Some rust spots.

Likely paint the hood and front bumper from 16 years of driving/rock chips.

So, a certain forum member gave me an Extang Freedom Tri-Fold soft tonneau cover.  All I had to do was pay $100 to ship it from Ontario to Winnipeg.

This thing is so easy to install.  It literally takes minutes and no tools.  I did have to remove the cargo rail system on my truck for it to fit, which took about 10 minutes and a torx socket.  Extang has attachments to install this tonneau cover with the rail system installed, but this one didn't come with them.  I may contact them and ask if I can buy just the hardware.

Anyway, I think it looks good, and I really couldn't beat the price!!
