Was bored, so I played around with my Apexi throttle controller on the IS-F today.

Generally, I get 10.2L/100km when I drive "normal" during my commute to work.

I decided to put it into the least exciting mode to see what, if any, it would do to fuel mileage.  Surprisingly, it returned 8.6L/100km during the same trip.  So the electronic trickery works.  But man...it feel like I was towing a boat anchor.

For those who care, here are the modes as compared to stock and a photo of the stock looking install.

That's pretty cool - I like the clean install, and the fact that it has that much of an impact is impressive.

Still though....It's not this:

Changed the cabin air filter in the Highlander - holy hell the old one was filthy and clogged!  It hasn't been that long since I did it last, but yeesh, it sure needed doing.

Hmmmm. I should look into that.

A while ago a put a charcoal filter into the Golf. It seems to do a good job of keeping outdoor odors from getting in. I'll see if there's an equivalent for the Highlander.

Hmmmm. I should look into that.

It's a one minute job, a little longer if you vacuum out the area above the blower.

No..it's better IMO....for the ability to "tune" it.

Just ordered a Denso replacement.

Yeah, I watched a video. Looks stupid easy.

The one in the Mazda5 was the worst.  It was at the back of the centre console and was two pieces that had to go together. I bet it took me a solid 45 minutes to replace it.

I used Pi's OBDELEVEN module to do more coding on the car.

The MFD now indicates the remaining number of litres in the tank.

And I am now able to toggle the ESC between On/Sport/Off.  E-brake turns here we come.   Sport actually allows quite a bit of slip before reigning it in.

I tried to change the number of auto blinkers from 3 to 4 but was unsuccessful. I'll keep looking.

Same thing with the Mazda3.  You had to be a contortionist to replace the filters.
The Sonata is super easy as the filter is behind the glove box.

The Altima was also a PITA.  It was behind the center console, and was accessible from the passenger footrest.  I couldn't fit there.  It took me 45 minutes of swearing to get it in.

I never actually had a chance to replace the cabin air filter on the van, so I have no idea where it is.

Hmm, weird. It was always super easy on the BMWs, a few screws over a plastic cover underneath the hood near the base of the windshield. 5 minute job.

That's probably the ONLY easily serviced item on a BMW...  And the most reliable, being nothing but a paper filter.

Oil filter was easy too. Right on top ! Same with the engine air filter, 6 screws and 2 clips.

I remember working on a friend's Civic, trying to figure out why an oil filter would be put at an angle in the undercarriage.

In the DTS, so easy a baby did it ;)

Charcoal is the way to go BTW...noticeable improvement in air quality, especially in the summer.

Great pic Zack!  Nice seeing you and the baby.  Hope to see you around the holidays,  but I know it is hard to see everybody, so much visiting.

All this talk about the cabin air filters I decided to change mine. After taking out the old one it was obvious I haven't done this in a while. Oops.

It's not like it affects performance or fuel economy, although it is good to do every so often.

Do I need to remind you all that in order to change the cabin air filter in my car (Volvo C30) you have to DISCONNECT AND REMOVE THE GAS PEDAL?

At least headlight bulb replacement is pretty easy...
