Put the winters on the Acura. The wife traded her Ford F150 for a brand new minivan which means we will be spending less on fuel but I lost my tow vehicle.

finally raised the insured amount for the Alfa, now it is insured for what it is maybe worth...phew cant go dancing around Murphy's Law, liable to break a leg
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Cleaned my summer rims from my Golf R prior to putting them away for the winter.  Was pretty cold so had to boil some water to add to the bucket to allow my to use my wash mitt.  I'm only at 26,000kms, and maybe around 15,000kms on the summer rubber, and I'll be lucky to get another season out of them.  I knew performance tires don't last that long but I was hoping they would have lasted a bit longer than 20,000 kms.

depends on the tires - I have found Continentals to be OK for wear, and my Yokos decent but worse than the Contis. Best so far coincidentally were the Firestones, lasted much longer than both. Going back to Firestones next change around for summer rubber on the Alfa.

Put a hitch on it.  Those Sedonas can tow 3500lbs, which should be enough to tow plenty of the cars you pick up (especially that little one!!)

Don't forget that OE tires don't last as long as if you purchased the same as new.

Yeah they have Conti's on right now from the factory.  I won't be getting another pair of those, not that their performance or any other aspect has been bad, just that they wear quickly and from what I can tell are some of the more expensive tires.  I have begun looking at possible replacements and the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 is a possibility.  If I was planning on keeping my Golf R past the summer of 2020 I'd probably go with Ultra High Performance All seasons as high performance summer tires are really too much tire for what I use it for.  But for resale I know the next owner will likely want some nice summer tires.

Those are the exact tires I will be putting on the Alfa in spring (Firestone Indy 500s). They are the old Bridgestone RE003s from Europe/Australia etc. FYI. A fantastic tire still today.

I don't mind an older design if they are proven and reliable.  They seem to be very well priced and that's important to me as I'll likely only be using them for season's worth.

Put on the winter tires and did an oil change. Switched to a better drain plug as well with the oil change.

Why bother do an oil change on an RX8?  Doesn't the oil change itself as you burn it off ?   :rofl2: ;D

It's true the car burns oil(albeit by design), but it doesn't burn that much unless it's broken.

Mazda rotary engines all have some kind of metering system. Older ones have a mechanical unit linked to the throttle while newer ones like the RX-8 are controlled electronically by ECU. Either way, it's dependent on the engine load, RPM, etc. If you cruise on highways you will barely burn any, while a track day can run through half a quart according to some.

I personally burn about 2 litres between 5000-km change interval.

Just wait until you see an 8th Gen Corolla.

I did for learning how to drive a stick. That thing burnt way more oil due to a design flaw in the oil ring. It burns about 1 litre every 1000 km.

"Unless it's broken."

Describes a significant percentage of rotary engines.

Had the winters mounted on the Lexus yesterday, and good timing.  Drove ~300km today in torrential rain and the Xi3s tracked like a champ.  Nice and quiet too.  I'm really impressed with the performance and ride quality of these things.   8). The Pirelli P7+ summers are a great touring tire but they can't hold a candle to the Xi3s in wet conditions.

I mounted the winters on the wife's Q50S last weekend as the temps overnight were starting to fall and she leaves for work at 6:30am.  But of course, since then it's been warm weather.   ::)

Normally I mount my own, and usually at the last minute before snow, but we were do for an oil change anyway so i had them do the changeover at the at the same time as it's only $6 a wheel.
What did they charge for an oil change ?
Lexus down here charges $100, over at Toyota it is $71 for an oil change, the RX and Highland share the same engine

Costco charges only $50.  ;D. Dealer would probably charge $15 to mount each wheel. Their coffee aint that good!   ::)

Yes, they use Castrol synthetic.  Bill is a little confusing.  Looks like basic rate is $49, but they added a charge for 1 litre and another for .25 litre...lol.  So basic rate must be for 6L and filter.  Total came to $95.04 incl taxes and four wheels mounted.

Dropped the XK8 off for winter storage. I'd drive it longer into the fall but seasonal plates expire Oct 31 here in NB and they are the only way to avoid a front plate.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.
