Last year I had a speaker go on my LS430. The Mark Levinson has 8ohm resistance and aftermarket speakers that sound good with the ML system are few and far between. So I bought a new OEM unit ($120US) and kept the old one as a spare to be repaired with a Simply Speakers DIY kit. So here's how you do it.
Most speakers weak point is the foam surround degrading and separating over time. This is easily seen here:

First thing you need to do is remove the speaker from the box/housing. So I cut a trap door to get to the screws.

Now remove the old foam carefully with a sharp blade. Cut it right up to the cone.

There's a little rib of foam left...remove that too.

Once that's done, clean off as much glue and residue from the cone and speaker cage. You want a clean surface so the glue will adhere properly. When done give a final wipe down with alcohol.

Put down a bead of glue on the cone and apply the new foam. Let dry 1 hour. Then put a bead down on the cage. Let dry..maybe overnight before using.

All done! The kit is about $25US and comes with the foam, glue and instructions to do 2 speakers. Visit
