This weekend gave the RX300 an oil change....what a horrible place for an oil filter, had to buy a special filter wrench to get it off.

Woke the Cavalier up from a long winter hibernation. Quick wash and it received its 16,000 km service. Total odometer sits at 16,277 now.

I had that same colour & gen as a company car back in 1995!!

Yesterday - got the new summer shoes installed.  W-rated Continental ExtremeContact 205/50 R17. $600 all-in, thanks to $250 in Canadian Tire $$$.
Nice choice.  Curious to hear your impressions.

Bella has those on her 323i, seem quite decent grip wise & not overly noisy.

Wow, looks just like the car a buddy of mine had in high school.

So I had a wiring issue with the trailer.  When I installed the brake controller in the van last weekend and tested it with the trailer...nothing.  The controller didn't even recognize that any trailer brakes were hooked up.  Uh Oh.  It had to have been either an issue with the van, or an issue with the trailer.  The issue was compounded by the fact that I wasn't getting 12V power from the van to the trailer, so things like the refrigerator wouldn't work while on the road, and the battery wouldn't charge.

I spent this weekend with a multimeter and a circuit light.  I determined that the van wasn't the issue, that all the signals were coming out of the van plug as they should.  Then I went at the trailer, and ended up pulling my hair out.  The trailer is 13 years old, and has had multiple owners, and it seems like someone has already been at the trailer wiring with some snippers and a crimping tool.  Not my idea of fun.  Wiring isn't my strong suit, either.  Anyway, I went on to the popupportal forum and asked for some help.  One member posted a wiring diagram for the brakes, which helped me to no end.  Turns out I had a bad ground.  I ran a new ground wire from the brakes to the front, and lo and behold:

The brake controller recognized the brakes, AND I have 12v power from the van to the trailer, so all my accessories work while on the road.  I just got back from a road test with the trailer hooked, where I calibrated the brake controller, and confirmed that the brakes actually work.  I'm so happy now.  Van and trailer are now 100% ready for our upcoming road trips.

Good that you got it working. It is very true with trailers, that if the lights or other functions don't work it is due to a bad ground.I have experienced this many times with my utility trailer.

BTW, you should totally contact Regular Car Reviews from YouTube to come and review your car.  That Cavalier is exactly the kind of car he likes to review.

I assume you went with the DWS 06.  I am between that and the Pirelli P7+ when the Golf is due for new tires.  Probably middle of next summer.

Had my car towed to the garage by CAA yesterday (Sunday).

I was pulling into my driveway when I noticed smoke coming out of my hood.  Looked under the hood and saw nothing obvious.  Looked underneath and saw a huge puddle forming.  Looked back along the road and saw the drip trail.  It must have started about 100 feet from home.  I got lucky, sort of.

Looked under the hood again and noticed that my coolant reservoir seemed to be empty.  It seems I was leaking coolant.  Hopefully just a hose but I've had to replace my coolant reservoir before, so ...

Anyway, today I called the garage and explained the nice "present" that CAA left for them.   :(

After their excellent showing in Tire Racks Ultra High Performance All Season test, the Pirelli PZero All Season Plus are going on IQs IS.

Should be on next week. Will report back.

Thanks.  I've never really worked on wiring that much.  My lack of experience scared me a little.  I've got plenty of experience replacing parts and fixing cars in general, just nothing involving wiring.  I'm glad I was able to overcome the hurdle (although I think I ended up fixing it completely by accident, just by running a new ground wire...it was a fluke).

Yup DWS 06.

Rob, nice to hear you liked them.  Seems I made a half-decent choice.  And for $600.00 out of my own pocket, thanks to $250 in CT $$$, I think I didn’t do too bad.

I find them very quiet, partially due to the switchover from the winters.  Also, on less than perfect pavement, you feel every imperfection, which is probably due to the harder compound and shorter sidewalls compared with the winters.  Will be able to give a more thorough report Victoria Day weekend after the 7-hour drive to Connecticut.

I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

That is cool.  Always like the wagon versions of these.

took it to the garage to get some exhaust work done. Free up some ponies!

That is one sharp JEEP.  With the black wheels and black lettering, it almost makes me think of a Trackhawk.

If I had the money for a new SUV, I think the Grand Cherokee would be very high on the list.  With a Hemi, of course.

It probably has air suspension.
