Got the Escalade Krown'd.
Refinished the last (finally!) rim for the orange MGB
Washed and waxed the T/A

T/A looks great!

Had a nail in one of the Clubman's tires so I had to get it patched today.

The Porsche got a lotta love yesterday, thorough cleaning, inside & out. Spent about 30mins just vacuuming the hatch, had a lot of grass from my golf push cart. Then the GF's 323i got some love inside & out today as well.

A few pics of the 2 grey ones.

The SLK got a final spin yesterday and then tucked away up on the lift for the winter. Today I took the Sonoma out, gave it a bath, a wax, leather treatment and then took it for a good drive before wrapping it up in the garage for the winter too. Felt wrong given that the weather was so nice here this weekend, but looks like it gets crappy and stays crappy by the end of the week.

I haven't done much, or thought much, about this truck since the Spring (I did a bit of work on it then), but every time I get behind the wheel, or take in the familiar smell of the cab, I am 17 again, picking up Mrs.Firm to spend the night riding around. Those were good years.

Looks great Firm. I always loved the look of those Sonoma trucks. Don't see too many of them anymore.

Washed the MDX and the Civic. Needless to say, Civic was so much easier to wash.

Then I touched up chips and dings around the edges of the hood, trunk, and doors with the touch-up pen I picked up from the dealer.

I wet sanded the clearcoat damage on the roof, but I realized I didn't have my clearcoat spray at home. So I have to wait until tomorrow to spray it. :(

I may regret not letting the professional handle this, but I am too cheap to spend the money on this thing.

Thanks, and yeah, I can't remember the last time I saw another one of these on the road that wasn't totally rotten. The bodies on these did not hold up well to salt...

That Civic clear coat stuff is way too common, Honda musta messed up the paint formula or something. Most Civic's I see from that generation have it. You'd think manufactures would have paint figured out by now...

So, this wasn't MY car, but rather my cousin's 97 Chevrolet Lumina sedan.  His brake lights stopped working, but the CHMSL still worked.  His mechanic told him it was the multifunction turn indicator switch that had failed, and quoted him $500 to replace.  My cousin wasn't willing to dump that much money in such an old car, and asked me to help.

I researched the problem and confirmed that it was indeed the turn indicator multifunction switch that had failed, and that it was actually a pretty common problem.  The part is contained within the steering column, which necessitates removal of the steering wheel and disassembly of the steering column.  I took my cousin to partsource so that he could buy the part ($100), borrow a steering wheel puller ($80 refundable deposit), and purchase a pair of snapring pliars ($8.99).  I had the rest of the required tools, complimentary of my decade of fixing cars in the driveway.

We ended up fixing his car with no problems.  Took us 2 hours to complete: disable the airbag, remove airbag, pull steering wheel, remove airbag coil, remove lockplate, and finally remove the faulty switch.  Had to remove some dashpanels so we could disconnect the old wiring and reconnect the new wiring (after threading through steering column).  Finally reassemble in the reverse order of disassembly.  And now I can say that I've disassembled a steering column.  Pretty simple assembly, actually.  Newer vehicles probably have a TON more wiring though.  The only wiring this one had going to the steering wheel itself was for the horn and the airbag.

All in all, 2 hours of work, free breakfast, hanging out with my cousin working on cars, and he let me keep the snapring pliars, to boot.  Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning.  Oh, and saved him $400, too!!

This was the first gen of Civic where they started using new water-based, eco friendly paint.  Or something like that.  The paint on these cars were crap.  I'm hoping they sorted it by later generations.

Waxed inside door edges, hood edges and fender lips on the Ody and Audi (see what I did there  ;D ).

Installed the WeatherTech mats in both cars, and as expected the Golf mats are a direct custom fit in the A3  :)

See it on several Accords as well.  Haven't seen this issue on other Hondas, like SUVs, and vans.

Yeah.. they extended the warranty on the paint to 7 years. I think the previous owner didn't get it repainted.
My GO train got messed up this morning so I didn't go to work and get the clearcoat spray. If this doesn't work, I'll just get the roof plasti dipped in matte black or something.

I probably wouldn't worry about it too much.  I mean, if it just looks like crap, but corrosion hasn't started, then it's not really a problem.  After all, $3500 car, amiright?

Still, it would bug me too if it looked like that. I am not a plasti-dip fan either thou, but I do love me some good ole Tremclad rust paint. So I'd probably mask the center section of the roof, sand it down with 800 grit and then lay down a couple coats of rattlecan Tremclad Gloss Black. The beauty of Tremclad is that it drys slow and self levels pretty decently, so you can actually get a pretty good finish out of it.
