The red Firebird has been sitting around most of the summer, save for a few highway trips (late night runs to Oshawa - ugh) to save fuel vs. the Slade. Still the most reliable car I've ever owned...It'll sit for a month, start right up, go on a 2 hour highway sprint at 9L/100kms, then right into the garage....never any fuss, always ready when I need it. The 3.8 might lack the rumble and torque of the recently departed LT1 Camaro, but from a functional/livability standpoint it is absolutely the superior motor.

Anyway, this afternoon I took it out and gave it a good bath. Then polished out some fine scratches (looks like there were from a snowbrush) in the hood and gave the whole thing a coat of Zymol....Winter mode soon :(

^ looks great Firm.

I washed, clay barred, and polished the truck. Ran out of time to put a coat of sealant on it, hopefully tomorrow. Plan on washing and sealing the MDX tomorrow too.

The truck has been neglected for a long time and was a shitload of work. All the dings and deep scratches really become apparent once it's cleaned up.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Changed the oil, transmission oil, air filter, cabin air filter and wiper blade inserts this morning.

Normally do all my own oil maintenance but my last oil change was due in the middle of January. At the time my car was also due for new plugs and i wasn't too keen on spending time working outside at -30 so i had it done at a local indy shop. Not coincidently, today was the first time I've ever had to punch a screwdriver through the oil filter to get it off. Even the original one from the factory wasn't on this tight.

I did end up washing,  clay barring, and sealing the MDX today. The clay took more than 2 hours; the amount of rail dust and road tar was incredible. Oh well, the paint is clean now and sealed and she looks great. Weather turned nasty at the end so I moved it into the garage and didn't get a decent photo.

The all season tires are done for on the TSX. I like the replacement indicator molded right into the tire.

Good thing I put the winters on yesterday.

Got a new, well used, spare tire for the Montero. The Pirelli Scorpion that was on there had more patches than actual tire and was well over 10 years old. Firestone replacement is 3 years old and cost $70 mounted and balanced.

I wonder if plug in hybrids should be filled with ethanol free gasoline? Probably the same problem as powersports where the gasoline sits around long enough that the ethanol is allowed to go through phase separation -- typically happens in a month or two depending on humidity. Keeping the gas tank full helps prevent moisture from accumulating, slowing down the phase separation, but it can happen.

No, it's a commuter. Family outings are with the van, couple outings with my car. The Golf went out of town once in two years!

Even regular gas now is fine sitting in a modern FI car.  No issues at all with the Miata.

Just brought the car for an oil change.  Can't believe how expensive things have gotten at the dealership.

Little stuff:
New batteries in the garage door remotes.
Book in for the tire changeover ( 25th, nice and early)
Booked to dealer in for pre-winter oil change and check of brakes. Last time I was there ( late Feb) they said I was 1/2 way through the pads.   Hopefully they won't need doing yet and when they do I'll probably go to our Audi Indy.  Still have warranty until next May.

Just hit 40k last week with the Mazda6, too lazy to upload the picture.  Will most likely put it up for sale next week on kijiji and autotrader.

Lease was up on the Subaru, so I bought it out this morning.  Seemed silly to even consider handing the keys back....probably had at least $5k in equity even on the trade-in value, much less the retail value.

Sounds like you had a nice down payment towards a new car.  ;)
