Also gave the Jeep a quick cleanup. Quick detailer, rubber/vinyl treatment, back to black tire dressing

Not sure if/when the Jeep needs tires, but these sound like a nice upgrade to stock Goodyears

Nitto....ugh, their car tires might be ok, for truck tires, oh hell no.

Really?  Why?  These guys seemed to like them....and it's a testing source I trust.

Or do you mean for dedicated off road stuff?
These guys seem impressed too?  http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/review/nitto-ridge-grappler-tire-review-54518.html
And these guys: http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/wheels-tires/1612-breaking-the-mold-testing-nittos-all-new-ridge-grappler-tire/
Seem to work well on this Jeep http://www.drivingline.com/articles/ridge-grappling-uwharrie-national-forest/

Have you had a bad experience or?

Their suv/truck tires are super noisy and quick wearing.

That's not what I've been reading.  (I've included new links above)  (EDIT: MotoIQ said they got 60,000 miles out of their old Nittos...which doesn't seem quick wearing?)

And several at Jk-Forum claim it's the quietest tire of this type they've used  and that it has no "radial pull" (whatever that is).

Don't know jack about these types of tires, but reading multiple reviews...they're all very positive.

My daughter wants a Wrangler.  But, I can't think of anything she needs less in some ways.  Sure, they're amazing at getting into tough areas - but so much of her driving is droning along on highways - and Wrangler highway economy and comfort suck.   Cargo space is also pretty small, especially for long things like big skis.

But she thinks they're cool.  She's right about that part.
Cool yes and good in the tight spot stuff as you say. Out on the highway though they can be tricky - especially in the snowy stuff.
One of my Sisters had a couple of CJ's for a time. She liked that she could tow her boat with them, were great for backing up trailers and get to the backroad cottages she visited. She did have the occasional 360 spins with them though which swore her off them.

I'd imagine the Unlimited is a bit better due to the longer wheelbase.

It is!! Rides better than my 98 Cherokee ever did... and surprisingly quiet as well with the soft top.

Not an issue with the wheelbase, coil springs and traction control of the JK Wrangler. The CJ was 30 years ago.....things have changed.

Got the oil changed after almost 10,000KM on regular oil. It's the most I got out between oil changes - I guess a lot of highway driving is the factor.  Other scheduled services like brake service, etc, cost be a lot more money than I wanted to spend, but figured I'd have them done before my montreal trip at the end of the month.
I missed out on getting a jack & stand kit last weekend during CT's big sale.  I will need one before I need to switch mine to winters.

This may seem trivial, but I put 7 people in the van on Saturday. 6 adults, and one child in a car seat.  It may seem trivial because hey, it's only people, but carrying 7 people is one thing that minivans do better than almost every other vehicle out there.  Everyone had plenty of room, and all were comfortable, even the 3rd row occupants.

I love using vehicles for their intended purposes.  When I had a truck, I'd constantly look for opportunities to haul things (moving friends, etc), when I had a Civic SI, I'd row through the gears constantly (that was its intended purpose, right?).  So being able to use the van for the purpose it was ultimately designed for, was kinda cool.

I agree.  I bought a 6.5 foot tall custom cabinet made with maple home in (mostly in) my MDX. The hatch didn't close so I had to tie the hatch down to keep the cabinet from falling out.
Yes, a minivan all the seats down would have worked much better, but I made it home with it in one piece.

It could have cost at least $500 for that cabinet, but it only cost us $100, so it was well worth it.

I also hauled home a slide for the kids in the MDX; that was the day I really wanted a truck.

On Sunday, I scratched the passenger side rear quarter on some tree branches sticking out in a parking lot. Hopefully it's just some clearcoat stuff.  I'll have to try to polish it out :(

It was almost my car.

Only year only Canadian variant on the Ford Falcon sold at Mercury dealerships. Frontenac was its own make.

I was going to buy this 1960 Frontenac. Rented a trailer, drove a long way to take a look. The top part looks great, fantastic chrome, etc but was super rusty underneath. Someone had put in new floors many years ago but not in a way I was comfortable with. Sadly passed on it even for really cheap.  :'(

Took it to the dealer to have them replace the Takata inflator. Although I never plan or want to experience airbag deployment, BMW's paying for it and I'd rather not have metal shards in my face.

First major expense on the Sienna -- new front passenger side hub and bearing. $520. Oh well. I also had the mechanic print out a service history since the previous owner took it there. The place was highly recommended by an old coworker of mine as well so I decided to stick with them for servicing. With today's service, it's just under 5 cents a km to maintain the Sienna at the shop, about $4500 over 3.5 years and 95,000km. Not bad. He did most oil changes and other easy to do items himself much like I will.

It's sad to think how many people have died from minor fender benders as a result of this whole airbag issue.

$4500 in maintenance?  Can't be...

$4500 in maintenance?  Can't be...

A set of winter tires, a set of summer tires, some oil changes, and a bunch of suspension, steering, and brake work. Over 96,000km it's not unreasonable. In 33,000km, I spent $3306 on my Odyssey.

Seems very reasonable to me....Older cars wear, stuff needs replacing and if your not going to DIY, it adds up rather quick.

My boss's 2013 RX350 was making some noises. I got it on the lift in the garage here at work and poked around....Needed front brakes, front wheel bearings, front stab links & 4 shocks. Probably at least a couple grand worth of work if he just went to the dealer or a shop....And that's a 2013 Lexus, albeit, with high kms (180K).

About a couple of grand.

Brakes and shocks I could do myself, I don't have the tools to press bearings into a hub however. Nor will I likely do my own timing belt which is due in 13,000 km.

But if I keep my car for 3.5 years and about 52,500km, and say it got as bad as the Odyssey and I was spending 10 cents a km = about $5250k in maintenance then sell my Sienna for maybe $2k, that's $146/mo owning and maintaining a minivan vs. $600/mo to lease a comparable brand new Sienna. Extremely reasonable if you ask me.

Even if I got a used 2015 Sienna LE for $29k  the van will probably depreciate $6-8k in 3.5 years. And the cost of dealer maintenance + tires on a newer car is like 4-5 cents anyway. 5 cents a km for tires and repairs on a 10-13 year old car seems good in comparison.

Yeah the tires are about $1700 right there..  I guess it's because we don't drive too much.  And it gets spread over each vehicle.   So my 2007 Entourage doesn't even have 150k yet, and we just came back from PEI.  Don't have the numbers now, I usually look near the end of the year, but I think since we bought it from my Dad just over 2 years ago, maybe $2200 in maintenance, including a set of summer tires.

Scrapyard buy. Not sure about the rims but the tires are in very good shape. The tires will replace the very, very old ones on the Pontiac.
