Fantastic, especially since stock Wrangler headlights are about 12 candlepower.

Also gave the Jeep a quick cleanup. Quick detailer, rubber/vinyl treatment, back to black tire dressing

That had me looking for a used Unlimited soft top with a manual.

HOLY HELL, they really hold their value. The asking prices are almost double a comparable Highlander.

You want to see holding value well, look at a Jeep LJ, the long wheelbase TJs, my god, you think they are made of a blend of whale tusk and unicorn mane.

The best thing about my YJ was the resale and how easy it was to sell.

Am I missing something ?  I can get a new Mazda6 GX for $26500 all in, or a used one that is 2 years old, same trim, with 40k on it for around $19000 tax in.   So isn't that similar?

It's similar, but how much is that 2yr old one worth on trade? After I traded my Wrangler in, it was listed for $34k... so lets say it sold for $33k + taxes would make it $37k, pretty much what I paid originally.

On a trade, I have no idea, just looked at a few on Autotrader, same year, same trim, mileage within 5k, and took an average.  I see what your saying though.

Yeah, there are few vehicles that hold value like Wranglers. The one I purchased for work back in July (admittedly, a bad time to be buying a convertible) was $26K +Tax....Almost $30K. That was the cheapest 2012 I could find, it has just over 100,000kms on it and needed a fair bit of love (which didn't matter since it is a project vehicle). <2012 can be had a little cheaper because they have the (apparently less desirable) 3.8L engine vs. the newer 3.6 Pentastar.

For the same price (literally) at the same dealer and time I also bought a 2014 Ram 1500 Big Horn w/ the HEMI and <50,000kms in perfect shape! Off-Road capability aside, the RAM is light-years more pleasant to drive around in than the Jeep.

Having driven both the Pentastar and having a minivan motor 3.8 in the house......the Wrangler is just a V8 swap in the waiting with either engine.

Totally agree. The Pentastar is generally an enjoyable engine, but it's weak sauce in the Wrangler. Ours got some exhaust upgrades, a K&N intake/snorkel & a Superchip tuner...the latter actually went a long way to waking the V6 up, but it's still a dog performance wise. Fuel econ is down to 12.9L/100km though, vs. the 14L/100km before we played with anything....Considering it got a lot of weight added (lift kit, 33"s, big bumpers, winch, etc) I am pretty impressed - not that 12.9L/100km from a V6 is anything to be proud of.

It's a shame.  A soft top unlimited would be a great 2nd car for us.  It would rarely see highway trips greater than 2 hours. The 4x4 would be useful and I presume it can tow a 2500 lb trailer.

The soft top + manual would make it a reasonably fun drive too.

Yeah, the unlimited can tow 3500lbs, would be a fun 2nd car for you, FOR SURE!! I enjoyed mine for the 2yrs I had it, just wanted something a little more luxurious for my DD... and a little more spacious for 3 growing boys!

Not sure if/when the Jeep needs tires, but these sound like a nice upgrade to stock Goodyears

My daughter wants a Wrangler.  But, I can't think of anything she needs less in some ways.  Sure, they're amazing at getting into tough areas - but so much of her driving is droning along on highways - and Wrangler highway economy and comfort suck.   Cargo space is also pretty small, especially for long things like big skis.

But she thinks they're cool.  She's right about that part.

Nitto....ugh, their car tires might be ok, for truck tires, oh hell no.
