Doing a full track day this Friday so I decided new front pads might be a good idea. Got the Stoptech Sport pads. Pretty easy to change them out, just slide the spring down, move the wear sensor & slide in new pads. Hardest part was getting the pistons pushed in. Love the brake duct design in this 31yr old car to channel air onto them & keep them cool.

I've driven +200,000 km and never had brake pads look like that...I've also never done a track day... :P :'(  I've had the rivets that hold the pads to the backing rust before the pads were shot.  Or the glue let go...whatever Ford used in '89.

I do need to replace the rotors and pads on the Fusion, because wobble, otherwise the pads are probably still 80+%.  4 people in the car and you brake and the wheel wobbles in your hand annoyingly and everyone feels it.  It's ok when it's only 1 or 2 people though.  Not sure if I should go with stock replacement or Cdn Tire/Piston Ring specials.  Do pads matter?  As in again, FOMOCO or aftermarket?

Something amazing has happened here.
It's been about 36 hours since it has rained.  No Niagara Falls like downpours, nothing.

To mark the occasion, the grey fleet got a good cleaning and detailing today.

Optimum No Rinse still rules for shine and ease of use.  I've tried a few other similar products and nothing comes close.
Still the best product of its kind out there.

Actually the pads weren't that bad, despite the appearance. They weren't down to the wear sensor yet, had another 1/8" or more still. Had good braking performance at the track last night. Tire grip was a different story tho, they were like hockey pucks until they got some heat in them.

Sounds like your rotors are really warped. Could machine them if there's enough left. Crappy Tire replacements are probably good enough for you. Or check Autopartway.ca to see what's on sale.

Right!  It is July now, time for the summer trip to the car wash!

Good luck on keeping your car clean in Edmonton this summer.  It's either 12C and pouring or it's 30C and we're having violent thunderstorms.

Wash, Wax, and interior clean.  I didn't have any tire dressing so the tires look like ass, but the rest of it looks good.

Nice to see everyone cleaning the vehicles up. I did the same and gave the Escalade a good bath. I spent most of Saturday polishing out the paint on the orange MGB (pics to come in the S&S thread) and getting it running right. I also tweaked the carb on the T/A and took the SLK out for the second time this season (boo) and put about 100kms on it. It was great weather to be top-down and I really did enjoy the car, which was a welcome change to just wrenching on them.

Drove the T/A into work today for the first time in awhile too.  ;D

Got the MG street legal. Insurance and registration. Just in time for a heat wave. 37C by Friday.  :o Hope my cooling system is up for it. I probably won't wash despite the good examples set here  ;D

^ Thanks - they do look pretty good don't they.   ;D  The CX-5's grey is interesting, if grey can be interesting.  Depending on the light angle it looks a bit brown (like in the 1st pic)
Oh, and to cement my Mazda slappy status, when I took delivery of the CX-5 I was given a Mazda ball cap.  And, yes I've worn it while driving both

The CX-5 could use a clay bar & seal.  Will tackle that when i'm off in a few weeks.

Speaking of the CX-5, it is a pain to get completely clean. Lots of small gaps between trim pieces that trap dirt - that little gap between the chrome strip around the grille and the fascia (just above the front plate) does an awesome job of catching and keeping a tenacious hold of various flying insects.  Fun getting the carcasses and assorted scrambled bug guts out of there...
I'm used to the MX-5 & its less than 1 beer job to detail.
