I take back what I said...fack...I got the bill for an all synthetic oil change on my Fusion, I used a $70 gift card from the dealer for getting my parents there and they bought the Edge...and I figured it'd maybe be $10-20 more...nope.  Total of $125 and change.  WTF!  :o :bang: They have no prices marked, but a filter is $10, labour's usually about $20, I think, so that makes 5.7l of Ford synthetic $15/l? When it probably comes out of a 50 gallon drum.  That can't be right.  Fack me.  :banghead:

Yeah, synthetic oil change for the Yukon is $120, both at the dealer and the last quickie lube place I went to. I think it takes 6L.

If I buy the oil and filter when they're on sale, I can do it myself for half that.

Yeah, it was under $60 with on sale Cdn Tire Mobil 1 for the truck.  It's never been more than $70 on the Sonic and it takes synthetic too.  Unicorn Ford oil I guess.  I feel violated.

Last time I took the Yukon to the dealer for an oil change was a year and a half ago. From the receipt, they charged me $12.30 per litre for 6 litres of Mobil 1 5W-30. That's not outrageous, I guess.

Plus $13.50 for the filter, and the rest was labour.

I don't know what the BMW dealership charges (I'm guessing 160 $US), but the cost of an oil change for me:

7x 11 $US/litre Motul synthetic oil
1x 14 $US oil filter kit

So right about 100$ US for a self oil change. Thankfully, this is about once a year at the rate I drive, so perfectly reasonable.

Which engine do you have ?
I have The 5.3l, and use GM Dexos oil , and it usually about $70 taxes in,  at stealership
The change oil light usually comes on at 12,000 km

The TDI's require a special low ash oil that meets the VW 507 specifications.  There are only a handful of oils available, none of them are cheap or ever on sale.

But with 15,000 km oil change intervals the overall cost is just a bit more than the Mazda. I used to always buy the oil on sale then bring it to my mechanic.

It's got the 6.0.

I like to put synthetic in it (mostly for winter starting), and Mobil 1 is what the dealer stocks. I also go by the oil monitor, and usually do changes around 10-11,000 km, but I try not to let it get all the way to zero.

I've been waiting for a week for the last item needed to get my VW Thing back on the road.
It (a new exhaust system) arrived from Taiwan yesterday.

Everything laid out for the install.  The quality of this kit is outstanding, but cheap it is not.

Before and after photos

Today I needed to put the rear bumper back on and start her up.  The carb will probably need some adjusting and I have to set the timing on my newly installed Mallory disturber.

Now, if it would just stop raining.  :P

I can too...I just chose to go with synthetic...and didn't ask.  So I went in there yesterday after work and asked...WTF's up? Well, full synthetic is $9.65/l X 6 l, reg oil change is $79.95 + the extra $6 and change per liter...yup, adds up to $125 with taxes.  Looks like I'm chaning the oil in my truck/car/car on my own from now on, even if I don't use synthetic.  I just thought I'd be nice to it.  Or I'll start buying the off brand synthetic stuff from Piston Ring with lots of zinc in it because of my car's high mileage (155k  ::)) and for about the same price as regular oil.  Ah well, live and don't do that again.

My shop lets me bring in whatever oil and filter I want and charges me $20 for the change.  I usually time it with other stuff that needs to be done.

That's pricey! And why would you use synthetic anyways? Lol...My last oil change for the Mustang, full synthetic = $79.99 / Explorer = $49.99 all before tax

Which shop is this Tortoise? I'm looking for a good indie mechanic to go to when my warranty is up.
