GTI is in the shop for coolant and brake fluid changes and I'm sitting here killing time.
I was also going to have a carbon cleaning done, but, surprisingly, the shop talked me out of it. They said if there's no CEL and I haven't noticed any driveability issues, may as well just leave it alone. They say they're starting to see fuel injector failures on these cars, so it would suck to take everything apart for the carbon cleaning, then pay all over again 6 months later to take it apart again to replace fuel injectors.
Best just to wait for something to break (intake manifold flap is an issue also) and do the cleaning as a side job while it's all apart.
I also asked them to pull the calipers and lube the slider pins, but they talked me out of that, too. Said they'd do it, but was just wasting my money since it was last done two years ago. I like to do it myself every couple of years at least, but he says that's overkill. Anyway, I don't mind doing it myself that often, but will take the mechanic's advice if it saves me 100 bucks for now.
