Renewed the plate stickers for two years.
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

Oh :censor:, that reminds me, I've had mine since April and yet to put them on!  ;D

Replaced the broken odometer gear in the 951, they're prone to break & mine did... had a spare one that I picked up a while back  ;D

Nice work! Printed circuit boards make me nervous :)

I had a productive weekend; got the Firebird E-tested, washed and waxed the Escalade, made some more progress on the Orange MGB and took the front clip on the Sonoma apart to do some cleaning and look for an elusive A/C leak. No luck on the leak, but I got the core support and everything all shined up and then put everything back together.

The kid started taking the rear brakes of the Forester apart - she says "OMG, things are DIRTY!!"

So I handed her a can of brake cleaner.

^oh, I was super careful with the printed board, read a few posts where people had it snag on the inside of the dash on the way out & ripped the board  :-\
Thought the whole job would take me longer, but I had it all done in about 2.5hrs... seemed like most of the work was trying to figure out how to get the steering wheel off and then the the little C-clips holding the gears on the end of the spindle.   :rofl2:

Loaded both vans with used retaining wall stones I am going to make in the backyard.  One of those take all or nothing.  There were 66.  Had to drive 24km the whole way home with the 4 ways on, took Dundas.  Even with the tarp, the vans are nice and dirty.  Sure was easier loading them in van, compared to a truck.  Not going to spend much time cleaning the vans either.  As we are going camping Thursday.

I polished the headlights on the Outlander today. Not perfect, but much better than before as they started to haze. The car turned a decade earlier this year so was due for some attention. From few feet away they look "new-ish" now so I'm happy.

I hate working with plastic parts period. My FILs Chevy van, to pull the headlights out, you had to tug on them quite forcefully....I hated that, was always waiting for the inevitable snap

Lighten up Francis.....

I had a Datsun 210 a while back. The door ajar buzzer would not turn off so I went to remove it. A good portion of the plastic dashboard exploded into a million pieces when I removed a panel from it.  :o

Changed the oil on the GTI. It was kind of silly because it's booked into the shop on Wednesday for new coolant and brake fluid, but I realized I had 3 new oil filters and 10 liters of oil in the garage, so figured I may as well use some of it up.

And with the oil extractor it's a breeze: took me all of twenty minutes, never had to get down on the ground, and didn't spill a drop of oil!

Also gave it a hose-down under the hood: it's rude to take a dirty car to your mechanic.  :nono:  :D

Washed parents' Tiguan while they visited. Dusted off l'intérieur.

Oil change on my moto on Saturday, figured 8300km and 3 trackdays was enough on the 2 litres of oil.

Actually drove the SS a solid 100kms or so. Errands around the city most of the day (I took the day off work). Felt great.
New wiper blades I ordered for it came also, so I installed those. The 93-97 F-body has an upsidedown J-hook, it's a stupid design and Trico is the only company that makes a replacement. Luckily I was able to get a fresh set from rockauto for like $4/ea....On the Firebird I swapped to the 98+ wiper arms with a normal j-hook so I can use any blades I want. Can't bring myself to bastardize the SS like that...

So. I did one thing to the 325i this evening.

My dad, in his goodwill and ever-effervescent desire to help and paint everything, offered yesterday to retouch/respray the black rail strips on the roof of the 325i as the black paint has been flaking off from age. "Yeah sure go ahead, just don't overspray, be careful".

As it rained this afternoon and evening (everyday here folks !), the wipers were scrubbing over a rough surface.........."Mmmm what could it be? I haven't done anything lately.......oohhh putain......must be overspray......"

So I had to go out and buy a claybar kit and clay the windscreen, some lower body panels, some of the rear windscreen, and the moonroof.

Dad had good intentions, not worth mentioning to him, even if this is the 2nd offence. Last time he was spray painting the stair railings with the 325i parked right next to them.

GTI is in the shop for coolant and brake fluid changes and I'm sitting here killing time.

I was also going to have a carbon cleaning done, but, surprisingly, the shop talked me out of it. They said if there's no CEL and I haven't noticed any driveability issues, may as well just leave it alone. They say they're starting to see fuel injector failures on these cars, so it would suck to take everything apart for the carbon cleaning, then pay all over again 6 months later to take it apart again to replace fuel injectors.

Best just to wait for something to break (intake manifold flap is an issue also) and do the cleaning as a side job while it's all apart.

I also asked them to pull the calipers and lube the slider pins, but they talked me out of that, too. Said they'd do it, but was just wasting my money since it was last done two years ago. I like to do it myself every couple of years at least, but he says that's overkill. Anyway, I don't mind doing it myself that often, but will take the mechanic's advice if it saves me 100 bucks for now.
