Picked up some Red Line MT 85 transmission fluid, eager to see if I noticed a difference in shifts. It was $8 cheaper per quart then the dealership wanted for theirs.

Since I replaced the entire braking system I go out to my shop every morning to check for leaks.
I think I've got them all.....maybe.  :P

I used redline synthetic MTL in my transmission and it is great!

Just ordered parts today.

Got a warning lamp yesterday that one of the GTI's headlights is burnt out. I was expecting the worst, as somehow I was under the impression that the whole HID headlight assembly had to be replaced, but no, it's as easy as installing a new bulb.

$75 on Rockauto for a new xenon bulb, which is no biggie. Ordered two and the turn signal bulbs as well. May as well replace everything while I'm at it.

I suppose the ballast could have gone also, but seems unlikely from what I've read. Guess I'll start with bulbs and hope for the best.

drove my m3 for the first time in nearly 2 months.

the engine started magnificently.   (it's been on trickle charger... ;D)

but i can smell burning oil. i'll have to inspect again.   could just be residue on exhaust pipe burning off, but it's been a while since i inspected underside so might as well.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Luckily, my xenon bulb managed to fly in overnight from Utah to SC so it made its way up to the mountains of NC in time for me to replace the bulb this afternoon. Easy 30min job. I even managed to avoid French and German swear words right up until I had to put the wheelwell plastic back together like scheiße puzzle it is everytime. (whoops)

Now there are no more bulbs to replace in that right side headlamp, YES I'm done !    Oh wait, there's the flash-to-pass light that could burn out.......but it won't.

Good weather here today, sunny and 7-ish. Washed the salt off the 'Slade and took it for a drive on the backroads....brakes vibrating worse and worse by the day, and my parts are still on their way back from QC (thanks Canada Post!) so I parked it until they arrive and I can fix it, hopefully next weekend.

Uncovered the T/A, checked all the fluids and and took it out for a drive. Thankfully it's running great, so I guess I am driving that to work tomorrow. Roads are not clean yet, but at least they're dry.

Clean?  Waiting for the sweepers to come by?  With the snow/rain Saturday morning, it cleaned my Mazda.  I finished it off, by cleaning up things inside.  But no vacuum yet, that's a double digit temperature job!

There's still a ton of (dry) salt on the roads; we need a good heavy rain to clean things up.

Not too much at once.  The lawns are still soaked.  Tired of drying the dogs paws!

Headlights for the GTI came today, so spent the two worst hours of my life installing them.  >:( >:( >:(

I'll spare you all the details, but you know what it's like: stupid, awkward little connectors and no room to work; need to use two hands, but there's no room; need to see what you're doing, but can't because your two hands are in the way. Goddamn I hate frustrating :censor: like that.  >:(

And then, after I get them installed and see they're working, breathed a sigh of relief and set about changing the air filter. Easy peasy and a walk in the park, except my fingers are cold and I drop the screwdriver. Plink, plink, plink and it finally comes to rest somewhere I can't even see it. Had to pull out the fender liner to get it.  >:(

Next time, call her to do it for you.  She seemed to be able to do it just fine.  :)  Sounds so cute when she drops an f-bomb.   :rofl2:

^^ Lol. I saw that one. Watched the whole thing even though it's for a MKV and not the same headlights as mine.  ;)

Uh, no. Nothing sweet about that exercise in frustration today.

And I'm not entirely sure it's over. I'm pretty sure I managed not to touch a bulb, but they sure did take a beating as I fumbled around trying to get them in. And I broke off the release tab on one of the connectors. Going to be a real biatch if I have to go back and replace that bulb someday.

Did you pull the bumper?

^^ No, but in hindsight I probably should have.

Just undid two screws on the top of the headlight assembly which lets them tilt forward maybe an inch or two. Still not really enough room for someone with big hands (heh heh) to work, though.

And I'm doing all this outside, in a gravel alley, so now that I think about it, pulling the bumper wouldn't be much fun either.

Oh, and I did pull the driver's side fender liner. That was fun: one hand reaching up through the fender, the other reaching down from the hood side, and still not being able to see anything or get a good grip on the bulb base to rotate it.  :P
