Related to putting the MX-5 away for winter.. I forgot to add air to my tires.
Figured it might be useful/convenient to have a portable air compressor around.
If your car is running, you won't blow a fuse.  I wondered about this with the RX400h being a hybrid and the engine not necessarily running while I have the compressor plugged in.  I've never had an issue.

What's wrong with the cheapest of the cheap?

http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/12v-just-in-case-compressor-0095094p.html#srp

It'll work just fine, and is honestly way nicer than the sh!t I keep in the trunk of the Corolla - I'm tempted to buy the one above for the Forester.

Just got home from Grenada this morning and with 20cms of snow expected tonight, I had to scurry and get a few things done.  Got the WS80s installed on the Q50, put the S2000 in storage for the season, and installed the plow on the ATV.  Yay, happy to be home from vacation!    :P

Anyone have one of these gadgets?

It's all JUNK.  USELESS!  You need to get with the program since you've become a menace on the roads.  :)

Everyone needs a compressor of some sort with a tank.  Loud, but effective.  http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/0581290P.html
1/2 price

The point is that somewhere in your lifespan you will need compressed air.  With "tanked" compressed air you can, with the right attachment, blow dust off your car, engine bay, brakes, whatever.

On sale at Crappy last week:  $8.99 all metal .....

^ I put 50psi in the s2000 for storage. Thinking of picking up some dolleys though when they go on sale.  It would be nice to be able to roll it out of the way sometimes.
These are the dollies I park the Miata on.  I liked these ones because of the curved platform the tire sits on.  Between that and putting 40lbs of air in the tires, they won't flat spot.  The casters are big enough that it's not too hard to move the car by myself over a typical textured concrete garage floor.  I got them on sale for $60 a pair.

http://www.tscstores.com/TORIN-2-PACK-CARATV-DOLLIES-P18038.aspx

those are on sale at:   http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/2-pc-vehicle-dollies/A-p8535924e

The thing about car dollies: the rubber meets the road when one goes to move the direction of the car and consequently the little castor jobbies need to flip 180 degrees for example.  This is when the capacity of the "dolley" may come into play.  My Mustang is 3700 lbs. so I opted for dollies that are rated for 4000 lbs. each.  Maximum I was going to spend.  Still it takes quite an effort to reverse course so I must be careful not to stress the body panels which are razor thin.  Floor is smooth as it gets for concrete.

I have the same attachment and a 16gal compressor that I use regularly. Even used it as a leaf blower a couple of days ago to get the leaves away from the driveway around the garage.  In fact I've used my compressor almost everyday for the last few weeks.

I'm going to pick up a set of those dollies this week.  I had a hell of a time getting out of my s2000 when I put it away this year because I parked the drivers side so close to the wall.  Haven't contorted myself like that in a while!

Why would it blow a fuse with the car not running as opposed to the engine running?

I've never blown a fuse with any of mine, engine running or not.

Right. Blowing a fuse would be related the the compressor drawing more amps than the circuit is rated for....running or not has no impact.

I have heard of 12V compressors blowing fuses though. Probably when they're overworked and overheat, so they start drawing more power.

The STEVE makes a good suggestion.
Looking into a proper compressor.

There's a few on sale this week at Canadian Tire http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/tools-hardware/air-tools-compressors/air-compressors.html?adlocation=LIT_Category_Product_AirCompressorsCat_en
If you're not going to run any air tools then the 3 gal will suffice, but if you're going to get air tools then go for the 8 gal one.

Irony: after buying my dad the booster pack, but unable to deliver it to Toronto until later on, the battery died in the RX400h (12V) today.  Free roadside with BMO credit card, but still, ironic... The idea of convenience, and my dad couldn't make it to the food bank where he was going to volunteer today instead of going into the office.

Yeah, Powerfist, besides being hilariously awkward, is not great at making good tools. I wouldn't buy an electrical power tool for them, no matter how cheap it is.

Took it into the dealer to get the windshield resealed.  Turns out this is a defect common to a bunch of cars released in the mid-2000s - C30, S40, V50, 1st gen S60, V/XC70, and 1st gen XC90.  No cost to me as it is covered under warranty.  :)
