Just because I got the Subaru running again the Silverado decided it needed some attention.  Jealous  or something.

Anyhow, a wheel bearing decided to make nasty noises.  Not much warning that it's going on these trucks.

Pounding and pushing out these hubs is a bit of a PITA.

Rusty old truck, yeah

Do you work for a living..?  ;D :P :rofl2:

Who? Me?       What?

Still trying to get the Subaru on the road, got the steering rack splines off by one tooth, now it de-activates the VDC and ABS after a short drive.
The fuel gauge is intermittent which  unfortunately can throw a check engine light.

Drove up to Beech Mtn, @1670m  which meant shoving my way thru tourists and flatland drivers. I don't think I've used the kickdown so frequently as I did today overtaking on 2-lane roads. The last overtake was a screamer: I passed 4 vehicles on a 600m straightaway, necessitating a hard 3rd gear pull from 80-150 km/h. Kept my eyes peeled on the horizon, if an opposing car came around the curve.....

So yes, the 3er got a serious workout today.  :skid:

Attempted to apply anti-squeal compound to the front brakes on the 3er to stop the loud squealing. I couldn't get the calipers off, so did what I could applying a bit to the crevices I could reach on the backing of the pad where it contacts the caliper anchor. It's only little bit better; ideally I'd take the caliper and pad assembly off and apply it to the entire backing.

The irony is that the calipers are supplied by my company, and I work at a brake caliper plant.

Topped up the T/A this weekend too. Compressor has a small leak, but to my surprise held enough charge through the winter to actually work decently this spring. I have a good compressor to swap in, but since this one is still chugging along I figured I'd fill it and see if it lasts the season. For the record, I am filling with RedTek, which is safe for the environment :P

A couple of times in the last month, I noticed a really hot brake smell from one wheel of the Explorer. Took it to my local garage the other day, they said everything was fine, wear was all even, brake temps were all fine.  Had an `uncompleted recall`notice (for a door handle, apparently), so I needed to take it to the dealer.  While I was there, had them check out the brakes.  Of course, the rear driver side was seized.  `Seized pretty good`, was the mechanic`s description.

So I did two things:  got the new caliper, and deleted my local garage from my `contacts`directory.

Twenty years ago, I would have changed the caliper myself.  Now, I have less time for stuff I can pay someone else to do easily.
My diesel car self-identifies as an electric vehicle.

that would be the assumption (a seized caliper), but if it wasn't acting up when you brought it in, they probably thought they were saving you money... just saying don't throw out that number yet!

so i "bought" a new jeep yesterday... ordered one anyway. all subject to me selling mine when it arrives, so we'll see. be a shame to give up my colour, but i get to start over the clock and after the math works out, i basically paid under a couple grand for my jeep over the last 16 months.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

couldn't get tank... hyper green wasn't possible... wife put a veto on mojave sand... sister drives a hydro blue... i don't like the basic "usual's"... so that left me with Rhino. i look at it as a darker, bluer version of what i have now.

Supercharged Viper Goodness
« Reply #5679 on: June 02, 2016, 03:10:01 pm »
I was back in Ohio at AP again, this time to swap out the air ride on my LS to traditional shocks.  There's always something interesting going on.  The TT Lambo was back, this time to have the clutch replaced.  There was actually nothing wrong with the clutch, the owner just didn't like how it "felt' when it shifted.  Tranny is a DSG.  Apparently, this is the 4-5 time they've installed a different model clutch (at ~$5k a pop) trying to please said customer.  The problem is, the car makes 700HP but the car "thinks" it still stock.  So issues.  They did have an ECU programmer specific to the Lambo...and it costs $500 a day to rent!

One of the owner's of the shop had his supercharged Viper there. He called it a "death trap"  :rofl2: 750RWHP.  Says it's almost "undriveable" in certain situations.  While on the topic of "death traps", he said their shop turbo FR-S with 450-500HP was also very, very scary.  But he did say with 300-330HP, the FR-S is about the most fun you can have and that's how he likes them!

Anyways...I took a brief, bad video of the Viper idling.  It does it no justice.  What it sounds like at idle is an offshore boat with twin 502s idling.  Just a soul-shaking rumble..very deep.  I've including a pic and you can barely see the supercharger..but it's huge..about the size of a soccer ball.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...
