While we were dropping the car off, saw some interesting stuff. A new Challenger with a swapped in Viper powertrain. The previous shop that was working on it, a very well known place in Michigan, spent 13 months trying to get the car running. They tried splicing the Viper powertrain into the OEM wiring harness. Seriously...it took those guys 13 months to figure out it wouldn't work? Amazing what stupidity places with big reputations can get away with!  A very short while after the car arrived at Accelerated and it's running already using a relatively cheap standalone (AEM).

There was also a TT Gallardo having a new engine put in. Engine cost is $50k and takes 3 days to get it into the car and running.

A brand new GTR block ready for a 1000hp engine build

A 1000hp IS300, a 1200hp Supra and the monstrous 2000hp, 8 second Supra getting $100k in upgrades and refurbishment. We had missed a 700hp Scion FRS that they made a kit to accept a Tremec tranny. Very cool!

And the owner bought a 1972 911 and is doing a complete resto on. He was lamenting the cost of classic Porsche parts..including the $700 hood emblem!

Lots of high $$$$ car here. Always great to visit
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

The lightweight flywheel should make the engine feel a bit more free revving....

I have wondered about this sometimes. Sure, a light flywheel will make the engine feel free revving. However, what happens when you engage the clutch? The engine doesn't have the benefit of the energy stored in the flywheel to drive the car. Piston travel provides a greater share of propulsion. Would it increase wear on the engine?

I wouldn't say extra wear on the engine, but the clutch will wear out a bit faster as you will either have to rev the engine more and/or slip the clutch more to take off from a stop.
I put one in my 911 and it ended up being a PITA to do drag race starts, not enough engine inertia to spin the tires  so the engine bogged off the line.

This week I'm going to show the Golf some love. It has barely been driven in nearly two months (a rare continuous string of press cars), was left parked in various industrial neighborhoods in the greater Montreal area for weeks, and hasn't been fueled since February. I barely had time to swap the tires in late April before parking it somewhere again. It needs its spring cleanup and floor mat swap.

Besides the Fiesta, this is one of the things I was up to:

I gave the Firebird a quick wash and took it out for a few photos.
This thing has been with us for 10 years now; it's been through every winter, and it's lived outside 95% of the time. It still runs and feels great too. Sure, I've cared for it way more than the average person would, but I've found it to be a really tough/durable car too.

I cleaned and detailed the interior of the Versa yesterday, headliner, door jambs, weather-stripping, every little nook and cranny that I could get at. The seats, carpets and floor mats got shampooed and while those were drying I gave the engine compartment a good going-over. Once that was done, I washed, polished and waxed the exterior. It took me pretty much the whole day, hell, it DID take the whole day, but the transformation was worth it.

The Versa doesn't look bad for an old beast with almost 9 years and 150,000 kms under it's belt. It feels and drives like it's ready for another nine years, not that I plan on keeping it nearly that long.

Mechanically, the car's been about as close to perfect as you can expect. It hasn't spent one minute in the shop for anything except regular maintenance, although that's going to change with the recent recall for rusting front springs. The car's probably due for a front-end alignment anyway so I'll get that out of the deal and when the parts come in I'll get the dealer to do an oil change at the same time, so the day shouldn't be a total loss.

Edit - The Versa was in the shop once for a broken muffler, but it was my fault for not seeing a seriously big pothole until it was too late.

The Highlander got an oil/filter change today.  About 4.7L of AMSOIL Signature Series 5W30 and one of their EA filters.  So easy - less than 30min start to finish.

The Versa looks great Schmengie! I love it when people detail their engine bays... Most are scared to touch anything in there other than the windshield washer reservoir.

Decided to do the front bearings on the Mini today, was a pain in the ass! First one I couldn't get the torx nut off that holds the rotor on, so of course it stripped eventually. Drilled it out in the end. Then the rotor wouldn't come off the hub, so at this point I said fcuk it will just take off the entire hub & rotor together & then bang the hub off the rotor, worked like a charm! Put it all back together in about 15mins after taking 2+ hrs to disassemble. Then I went to do the other on, doused the torx nut in WD40 & hammered on it before I tried to remove it, go it loose easily & the rotor too, but the damn axle nut wouldn't break free, tried everything, hammering it, WD40, impact gun & nothing. Even put the wheel back on, put the car back on the ground & used my breaker bar & still no movement. Got a piece of long pipe to use on the breaker bar for even more torque, broke the breaker bar, sheared off the end that goes into the socket. At this point, I gave up, put everything away & called it a day. Anyone have any suggestions? Was thinking I'd take it to a shop to get them to break it free for me & then I can finish the job on my own later.
