Gorgeous weather in Ottawa this weekend so I:
  • took the snow tires off the Miata and put on the summer rubber, and
  • fired up the Cobra after a looooong winter hibernation, and took it for a four-hour rip!!  It ran great!!

Spent most of the beautiful weekend in the garage/driveway....time well spent I guess  ???

Saturday I swapped the wheels on the 96 Bird...That involved repairing some failed factory undercoating and cleaning/waxing the old winter rims.

Saturday night we attended a function downtown and decided to take the 85 T/A. Car run great, but as we pulled into the driveway at about 1am Sunday morning Mrs.Firm started yelling about seeing some smoke. I parked and got out, opened the hood to a huge cloud of steam  :-[ I grabbed a flashlight and found a split heater hose that dumped coolant all over, including on the exhaust manifold (hence the smoke show). Dumped coolant all over my driveway too.

I had noticed the heater hoses looking a little sketchy a couple weeks ago, and I even bought some hose to replace them, but never got around to it. Soooo Sunday morning I got up early and replaced the buggers. Then I did the wheel swap on that car too, including clean the winters and wrestling them up into the storage loft.

^ At least you made it home without getting stranded.

I removed the wheels from the s2000 and gave them a good cleaning inside and out, then a coat of sealant followed by wax.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Would've been much worse if ti happened a few minutes earlier while we were boogieing along the QEW.....Worse yet I was wearing a brand new suit.

Washed, clayed and waxed the FGC!

The claybar didn't remove all the contaminants though...there are still orange specs everywhere  :-\ I think I need some type of solvent - bug and tar remover didn't work either.

Sounds like iron particles. CarPro IronX is a good one, although it smells strongly of sulfur. There are a couple of others too (Optimum FerreX etc.). Spray on, it reacts with the iron, IronX turns purple, rinse off.

Summer tires are back on. Again. Gave it a wash while I was at it.

Got the Miata out last week.  Sure felt good to drive it again.  3 degrees on Friday morning was a little brisk with the to down, but what the hell!  Gotta love it when the first convertible of the year I see out is my own!  :drive:

Got the garage back into summer mode, put all the winter stuff away on Saturday.  Changed the oil in the Miata.  Sunday was summer tire changeover day for the CX9 and the 3.  Damn those 18" CX9 wheel get heavy after a while!  While I had each wheel off, I stuck a garden hose up inside each wheel well and gave everything a good rinse off of winter crap.  Had to give the driveway a good hosing down when I was done.

The LS430 is back.
« Reply #5456 on: April 18, 2016, 05:37:03 pm »
I got my LS back.  Total cost was $3100.  Turns out the collision took out the front wheel bearing so that needed fixing.  The car is very quiet and I can juuuuust hear another wheel bearing on it's way out.  So I'll be doing that next.  Apart from that, car is excellent and looks great!

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Nah!  I just hit a trophy sized raccoon!!  Broke my bumper and took out the wheel bearing.
