So the Fozzie XT is back in Canada (yay!), but the ride back was facking awful. Massive intermittent vibrations and terrible braking performance on the long drive, which of course didn't exhibit itself until about 45 mins into the 4.5 hr drive (making it somewhat questionable about 'what' to do). Based on the situation, I assessed that it would be reasonable to drive slower, more carefully, and stop frequently to check everything I could.
Turns out that I was correct - front rotors and brakes (sticky front driver's side caliper and 2mm of pad left).
Funny that the pads should be at 2mm in the front (and 9mm in the rear) since I paid to have Subaru change out the brake pads all around 17 months ago (and she's driven <5,000km in the past year). Also funny that the engine and cabin filters were "filthy" given that I paid to have them changed out in April of this year.
After about 2 hours on the phone, the dealership in Ithaca paid for the replacement filters that its employees failed to install (despite charging me for same), and the one here paid for the new (2 front) and machined (2 rear) rotors and front brake pads since its employees failed to do the front brakes last year despite charging me for same
Seriously, I'm really wanting to start DIYing more.
No charge to me today, but the bill was nearly $1k for 2 new rotors, 2 machined, new brake pads up front, filters, and tire balancing. What bugs me isn't that I paid for things that I didn't get (that does bug me, but not nearly as much as:), but that they certified a car as having new brakes when it didn't. In April, when I had the winter/OEM tires switched over, the dealership in Ithaca didn't say, "hey, your brake pads are seriously low, bro!". No, it was "your work is done. Pay us and get your car, and your ice cream bars!"
The ice cream was tasty, I'll admit.
...but I just drove 425km on a car, loaded with all of Lady Noto's belongings (and cat), with 2mm front brake pads with 'fried' rotors. I'm livid.
On a side note, since I don't care to start new threads any more, the a/c condensation pipe in the condo above my new one in Guelph was out of place and now my bedroom wall is soaked, carpet flooded, and ceiling discoloured (likely to get mold), but the site manager went in for unsolicited 'repairs' and got paint on my brand new couch that I've never before sat on.
What a facking week of moving
