Replaced a rear caliper on the Montero this weekend. Weirdest thing....could not bleed the brakes without having the key in the ACC or engine running....never came across that before.
Lighten up Francis.....

^ I had the same thing happen once on a late (1980) MGB....Never understood it, but I figure it had something to do with the booster.

Looking through the manual....its something to do with the ABS system, some valves and pump or something  ??? Just found it weird, bled the brakes on tons of vehicles, never ran into this before. It makes things a lot easier as the fluid is forced out very quickly so I inadvertently did a flush as well  :-[

I love the old Banjo style wheels on those old Austins.

Weekend got eaten up with house and Father's stuff, but I did get the chance to give the T/Aa well deserved wash.
Today I drove the Sonoma to work for the first time in like a year or so...ran great, but pulling into the parking spot I noticed my brake lights weren't working. Giggled the brake switch around a bit and they're working now, but I guess I'll be stopping the parts store tonight for a new switch :( (#2 for this truck).

Also, my dad picked up a 67 Austin Healey 3000 over the weekend, it needs a thorough cleaning, but it's a very nice car:

That is a beautiful piece of kit

Yeah, it's a pretty cool car. I always sorta liked the Healey's but I never really studied one. Getting to sit in it and tinker aroudn with it yesterday was interesting, definitely a heck of a machine for it's time.
The throttle linkage is currently broken, but he'll have it fixed in a couple days and I'll get my chance to drive it :)

I've heard the big Healeys described as a pile of parts traveling down the road in a roughly car shaped formation. They sure are pretty though!

I'd try a different (known good) battery first.

Wanted to save some money and change the oil on the Odyssey, and take advantage of the nice day on fathers day.  Bought the oil, filter.  Jacked the van up.  Could not for the life of me get the oil drain plug nut off!  Had a DIY neighbour give me a hand.  No luck, 17mm wrench, tapping with a hammer.  Will have Honda take it off, and get a new nut!

Christ I hate that.....its like when people put the oil filter on with a oil filter wrench and then wonder why they need a 5 foot extension on their breaker bar to take the bloody thing off. Rubber gasket = do not need to put your back into tightening.

Drain bolts for me are always done with a torque wrench to manufacturer spec.
Oil filters are initial contact plus 2/3 to 3/4 hand tight, depending on manufacturer spec.

Totally forgot about it in my earlier post, but on Sunday I gave the SLK it's first wash since August of last year. Car had hardly been driven, but it was really dusty. Wish I had time to do the leather and wax it, but I didn't. I did take a minute to admire the perfect door jams, not too shabby for a 14 year old car (that was my daily for a few years)

Tonight I made it home from work in the Sonoma, 55km in GTA rush hour traffic not knowing whether your brake lights are working is a little tough on the nerves! (they weren't working btw). Stopped at PartSource a got a new switch (#2 for this truck). Pulled into the garage just as it started to rain, so after dinner I went out and swapped the new switch in - 15 minute job and problem solved :)
I haven't worked on that truck in awhile, brought back some old memories...I've probably removed that under dash panel 15 times in the 10 years I've owned the truck for various reasons. Could honestly probably do it blind.
Note the strategically placed rag.....I need more space!

Ugh. I've never had a drain bolt require more than 25 lb-ft before. I had my wife take my car to a shop before then next oil change I couldn't get it off. I took it back to the shop, asked them to loosen the bolt then do it hand tight with a short wrench.

The one on my 911 is 37lb/ft!!  But it's different than a traditional plug.  It's a socket head cap screw. 8mm hex.

Oh..there`s also a torque spec for the filter cover.. 19 lb/ft!

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Torqued the wheels on both cars.  Surprised the Honda requires only 80 lbs-ft.  Finally took the truck for service yesterday.  It was only 3k overdue this time.  :P

Dang. I do 88 for all my cars. Lol.

Honda Odyssey - 79.6
Mazda 3 - 67 to 85.

I'll switch to 80.
