@tpl "^^^ I would ask why the lines are not INSIDE the body"

Damn good question.  Of course, they'd be even more costly to replace if they failed.

@OliverD "You sure the fob wasn't just missing? I can't imagine a non-base Highlander not having remote entry."

I don't know.  It has a real Toyota key, but I guess it's not necessarily the original.  Turning the key twice opens all the doors, so this electronic function suggests you're right that it originally had fobs.  Or maybe it's loaned out without the fobs.

@Arthur Dent  And the hybrid system is dependent on a functioning a/c system. "That is a weird one"

No, it needs a/c to heat/cool the hybrid battery.  I guess it could function without this at the cost of battery life.  This is partly why the batteries in hybrids seem to last forever.  The system is set up to prevent electric-only driving, and regenerative braking if the battery is too hot or cold.

Escape Hybrid trivia:  The pre-'09 Escape Hybrid had a separate hvac unit in the rear left corner of the cargo area. That's why part of the side window is a vent.  The hv battery hvac unit and the passenger compartment unit share a condenser, compressor and refrigerant. There's a temperature sensor for the battery used by the hybrid control system to operate valves allowing the refrigerant to be used by the battery hvac, interior hvac, or both.  After '09 the Escape Hybrid simply used interior air to heat or cool the battery. Makes sense, saves weight, cost and complexity.  But the battery is heated/cooled slower, so the vehicle is not as quick to make use of the hybrid system.  So mileage was a bit worse.  Also, this is why the '10-12 Escape Hybrids don't have the side window vent.
And some cretins think I hate cars.

Discovered the rear main seal leaking on the Highlander - replaced the PCV valve last week - and spent some time today crawling around under it, and presto - no more leak.

This morning I drove the Miata out to Chickakoo Lakes via the backroads - so a great drive to a great place to trail run.  After a nice run, a nice drive home!  Best of both worlds!

Lots of car troubles for some reason.

Stohr overheated on track yesterday after 1 lap, might have blown headgasket :(

LX570 rear brake caliper is siezed, well I can press it back in, but then the pads lock up and drag, pretty sure it's screwed up.

Neon chump car, drove around paddock, shut it off and it won't start anymore.

Bummer - if the gixxer engine is similar to the 1300, then pulling the head isn't too tough - especially if you can get the engine on a bench.  Just be careful of not breaking the chain guides.  Pulling the cams makes it easier.

It's way easier than some Honda engines!!!

Fingers crossed it's fine...

Yeah I won't know until I drive it again.  Stupid shop that built the car, put water in and when they saw it was full stopped I guess.  I put another 1.5 litres of water in.  They never burped it.

It's not like I went out gun ho either.  I warmed up the car, headed onto the track and halfway into my lap it was overheating!!

Video and photo to be posted in my crazy thread.

Sorry for the bad luck Wing :(

On Friday our A/C refrigerant supplier stopped by the office with his van, so I had him empty the non-functional system in the Trans Am and re-fill along with some seal swell. A/C has been blowing ice cold in it since - we'll see how long it lasts, but I did leak check all the accessible unions and everything seems tight....I have to say, riding around in a 30 year old car with the windows up and the AC cranked is pretty badass :)

It was idling like crap, which became even more noticable with the AC on. Last week I'd tightened the carb bolts (which were really loose), checked for vacuum leaks, changed the PCV, tested the EGR, and threw in a new air filter. Noticable improvement, but still rough. So Sunday I changed all 8 plugs (PITA) and turned the idle screw in about 1 turn. Big improvement, still a little rough for my liking, but it's much less noticable now. I have new wires I was going to put on yesterday as well, but it got late in the day so I said f- it. Next steps will be to install those wires along with a new distributor cap and rotor.

I also changed the front sway bay links on the T/A yesterday too. The bushings were worn creating some clanging over bumps. Nice to have that taken care of.

Well good news for my truck.   $500 for new pads and rotors all around and a new rear caliper.   Not bad.   And I ordered good pads

Parts for Toyota produced vehicles are very reasonable.
