This Subaru is less than awesome. But repair after repair, upgrade after upgrade, it's getting there.

Buy a good car to begin with and you don't have to repair it constantly lol

It's the design and they way they do things on this Subaru.  Subaru is the FGC of Japanese manufacturers IMO.  :rofl2: I think the only car I've seen with more vacuum hoses was the Audi TT I had...

Yea, miles don't scare me much.  There's a REALLY nice Lexus LS600HL with a bazillion KMs on it I'd love to own...

I did the opposite of that ^

Had some new (to me) detailing products kicking around the office, so I brought them home and tested them on the Sonoma. It was just lightly dusty, so I wiped it with a Kozak (very old, but again new to me) and then tried some "G3 Supergloss wax", also only new to me. Paint was in good shape to start with, but it did make a noticeable difference as a fresh wax usually does. I did find the G3 paste wax a little greasy for my liking, but it went on and buffed off really clean.

For those not familiar this is the stuff I am talking about.

And the Sonoma...I only did the one side and hood so far. I'll have to flip the truck around whenever I next get some time to finish it.

Firm, you planning on having kids?  You seem to have so much time to work on the cars, it's not fair!  The Spitfire, the Firebird, cleaning the cars.  My accomplishment is keeping the interiors liveable.  Bought all this nice products from eshine last year (porter cable polisher, hartglanz waxes, pads), have yet to use them.

Tooscoops, are you in the same boat as me?  Hard to work on the cars with the kids?   I can do things inside and multitask with the kids.  But outside, they run off.  Or loose interest helping me after 10 minutes.  Oh well, they are just vans I guess.

I am planning on having kids, not for a couple years though. Believe me, I have very little time. One very demanding full-time job, min 3 hours spent commuting everyday, and a part-time writing job. Plus home renos/improvements and wedding planning. I can only imagine how much worse all this would be with kids though...
I take managing my time very seriously and do my best to make time for the stuff I really enjoy (car stuff). But the list of what I want to do grows a lot faster than the list of stuff I am actually able to get done - I've got plenty of waiting projects, lol.
I am also a bad workaholic...It's very difficult for me to sit still and do nothing. If I go through a day where I get nothing "incremental" done, it puts me in a bad mood. So I am always rushing from task to task. Part of me wishes I wasn't like that, because a lot of the time I feel like life's moving really fast and all I get to do is work. The Sonoma cleaning is a good example, it was 9pm, the wifey was getting into bed, I'd finished paying some bills and probably should have just showered and settled in beside her to watch some TV or something....instead I went outside and spent an hour and a half rubbing the truck...

I put my kids to work to keep them busy.  ;D

They enjoy doing the hose down and rinse (often turning it on me, siblings and the dog) and polishing the rims.  I do not let them go anywhere near the paint.

I tried once to let my 3 year old help.  He kept dropping the rag on the driveway.  Then he dumped the container of soap.

That was the end of that.

Exactly, my kids are 3 and 6 months, so at 3 most kids help a bit, but it's usually more work to make sure they aren't getting into trouble...

Firm, I wish I had your ambition.  I think I am little more balanced.  Certain things are more important to me I guess.  And when you have kids, priorities change.  Spending 1 hour at the park, vs 1 hour cleaning the car, easy choice..   And the wife doesn't help with any outdoor work, so that doesn't help...

Very True Solstice....I understand how kids can really change things, they won't be little forever though, enjoy it while you can. You can always play with hobbies once they've grown up. My dad is a huge car guy, but when my brother and I were younger he was a lot less involved in the hobby...once we were old enough to take an interest as well and actually help out, he bought more cars and started collecting/restoring them again.
I didn't mention it before, but it's important to have a partner/wife who works as hard as you do...Mine doesn't do anything outdoors either, but she does the majority of the indoor chores; cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. Definitely gives me more time not having to worry about that kinda stuff.

Absolutely.  My kids are 3, 5, and 5 months.  The older kids require a lot of attention around the car to make sure they're not dipping the wash mit in gravel or drying the car with a brick.  I just give them simple (and safe) tasks to keep them busy and they have fun with it.  It takes longer but it qualifies as "parenting" as opposed to ditching my wife with the 3 of them while I spend an hour or 2 alone with the car.
