Swapped the tires on the Audi over the weekend. The e-tron was parked during our first cold & snowy week, but dd1 needed it for her interneship over a few weeks, so time to put the snows. Except...
My expertly manually torqued wheels had apparently been dismounted by the dealership last summer during the car's first service. Needed more grrrrmmphhh to get the bolts off, and of course, at the 4th wheel ... the wheel lock key broke. Tried a regular bolt with my little home compressor at its max setting (125 lb-ft), they don't budge.
Of course, it's Sunday. Vented
, had lunch, tried Costco. No spare locks, can't get the key to bite either. More
Wasted a full morning of work driving against traffic to the dealership this morning. Good thing I had time to cool down. First, they insisted they had not removed the wheels for a brake inspection. Yeah, right
. Went calmly into a lesson on how I've been torquing my own wheels for the last 25 years. They removed the last lock with a double key, installed the last snow tire (I had installed the three others), removed the remaining 3 anti-theft bolts, supplied me with a new lock bolt set, did not install them at my request, supplied four oem wheel bolt caps for the new regular bolts that replaced the anti-theft ones, and offered a free wash. I declined (it's snowing, waste of my time), but had two Nespressos and free breakfast. No charge.
