You can't shut the compressor off??

On all the cars I've owned with air, you just pull a fuse to disable the compressor before the wheels come off the ground.

It has a large air tank.

So even when the car is off, it's sending the pressurized air to the struts??

Yes. It is actually quite convenient when sleeping in it as it self levels no matter how you park it. It wakes up periodically and levels. No wonder crap breaks on these. ;D

You can leave a door open to stop the leveling but the best solution is just a big jack that overcomes the articulation of the wheels.

Wouldn't jacking under the control arm work better then?  Like a bottle jack?

Sort of. But then the other three wheels extend trying to keep the vehicle somewhat level. Big floor jack gets it and I usually jack the whole side at a time to get two wheels off the ground.

Is there an equivalent of Vag Com for the LR?  Surely there should be a way to tell the suspension to stay in its highest position or even turn off altogether although I would expect that to be a user accessible control.

My JGC has a "tire jack" mode that you select on the uconnect & it turns off the self leveling. Works great... when you remember to use it, lol!

Impressive!

Outback - We've now owned it for 48 months. 56,000km.  My wife was working in Miramichi and was doing a roughly 300km round trip there once a week for a year....but that was sandwiched in between two maternity leaves where she was only driving maybe 500km a month.  Moving forward, about 1000km is about right.  Her commute plus evening errands but the Pilot is our main vehicle for family outings now.

I've never liked the CVT or the throttle...."rubber band" effect plus a real jumpy pedal...so hard to drive smoothly.  Doesn't seem to bother my wife at all, but then we got an alignment done at Subaru over the summer and now the car tracks nice and straight, but is so twitchy over any road imperfection.  It's really a chore for me to drive it these days, so I avoid it.

Pilot - Bought it in April 2018 with 71,000km.  As of today, have 82,000km.  Relatively short commute, but sees weekend family hauling and outings.  A few summer road trips.  Long term, an average of 2,000km per month is about right.

If we were to keep these long term, it won't be mileage that does them in.

Well, we've now had the Cayenne S for 5 years and put 100k on it, it's now at 192k. so 20k  per year.

I'm shopping for a transmission oil pan for it, it's rotten and wet.  :(

Do expand on the pan.  Rotten? Did Porsche make them out of biodegradable materials?

Yikes, I initially read that as you were shopping for a transmission.

Took the Explorer in to have the airbag light thing fixed; the air bag light came on back in May, I decided to ignore it for a while.  A relatively common problem that could be a loose connector or a bad connection, or it could mean replacing a wiring harness.  But with the MVI due, I thought I should fix it.  They have a 1 hr 89.95 diagnostic base fee.

The tech had to pull out the center console and clean up a corroded connection and hit it with dielectric grease.  Took him just shy of 2 hrs.  They only billed me for the 1 hour 89.95 base fee. I was pleasantly surprised.

My diesel car self-identifies as an electric vehicle.

Had the winters (Blizzak DM-V2s) swapped onto the Highlander.

They are SO much quieter than the 6 year old Michelin LTX2's that were on there.  I was beginning to wonder if it was a bearing noise I was hearing, nope - just the tires.   I'll be looking for new A/S tires in the spring.

Are they on separate wheels? If so, then you should be doing them yourself... even No-san does seasonal tire change overs now

Thanks, dad!

Naw, I don't have separate rims yet.  I had them mounted to the OEM wheels that were on it.  Keeping my eye out for a set of the Limited 17's.  Or, I'll just keep swapping them at Costco for $60.  I don't want to run steelies.

I'll be swapping over the Golfs myself once the temps really drop.  I am debating getting one of those guides that you screw in.  Amazon has a bunch in pairs, lemme know if you still want one.

The DM-V2s are quiet, and they're near silent compared to the Grabber AT2s I run in the summer. It's startling.

Yeah, I was surprised how quiet they were.  I was expecting a hum of some sort, but nope.  The difference between them an the LTXs is staggering.

Gotta break your balls a bit  ;D

Can't remember if we needed the same size or not? I need a 12mmx1.5 for the E90. Wonder if Ron ever made them, but just hasn't sent them off yet?  :rofl2:

I'm pretty sure I am 14mm x 1.5.

And yes, I appreciate the chirping.

Those wheel guides for FGCs should come with the car. Mercedes supplied one in the tool kit.
