Yeah, absolutely a special tool for that bolt. And the doubly stupid part about the special tool is that it’s actually only meant to work with another special tool! It’s got a rectangular end that slots into the end of a special torque wrench, which I of course don’t have and am not about to buy.
But I figure the important part is that it fits onto the bolt head securely. I can figure out a way to grab onto the other end with vice grips or whatever.
Honestly, even the regular six point wrench probably would work ok if you’re careful, but I’m done screwing around. New one will be installed properly.

And there’s also a company that makes the special tool, but with a square insert for a 3/8”-drive torque wrench. I really wanted that one, but it was backordered with a two-week wait.
