Haha. I'm surprised Fob would put Sahara rims on his Wrangler lest someone assume he's a poseur.  ;D

How worn are the tires?

When I sold my Dad's JK 16" wheels and BFG Mud-Terrain tires that had maybe 100kms on them (he replaced them as soon as he bought the vehicle), we got $1000 for the set of 5.

Got a check engine light in the GTI for the first time today. Car ran fine, and when I got it home I wasn't surprised to see the infamous P2015 code when I scanned it.

It's a known issue with the intake manifold, and my car is covered under a warranty extension for that item. Well, it would have been covered if I hadn't got it tuned last year.  :shuffle:

So, now I'm looking at a $1,100-$1,500 bill for something that should have been free. Screw that! I think I'll just get the parts and do it myself. Will be a bit of a PITA (will do the carbon cleaning while I'm in there - messy  :P ), but oh well. Will probably buy some extra goodies from ECS tuning and install those while I'm at it.

Can you not just reflash your ECU to stock and take it in for warranty service?

Not from what I understand. Apparently there's a counter for how many times the ECU has been flashed. Even if it's flashed back to stock, VW can still see from the counter that it's been reflashed by somebody other than VW. Apparently that's all the justification they need to void the warranty.

But, now that you mention it, maybe it wouldn't hurt to call up the people who did the tune and see what they have to say.

Flash back to stock. Unplug battery. Tell them that's why it's flashed.

Will cost you nothing to try. The worst they can say is no.

Also, argue your balls off with them. Flashed once or 200 times..had nothing to do with P2015.

This. It's a common failure for the TSI, flashed or not. Argue they have to prove the tune killed it... Assuming it even comes up.

Well, it will cost me a $150 diagnostic fee just for them to read the code. So I’m still on the hook for that if they say no to the warranty. And I’m pretty sure they will - dealer said the first thing they do is scan the ECM and send the results to VW as part of getting warranty approval. Any discrepancy and warranty immediately denied.
No Mag-Moss in Canada, so they can do what they want.

I called the indie shop that installed the tune but couldn’t get ahold of anyone. I’ll try again tomorrow. Maybe they can suggest a mod-friendly dealer in Calgary, but from what I understand, there’s no such thing anymore. Warranty decisions are made at head office, and good luck arguing with them.

Been there done that. I was approx 2K over the warranty mileage and took a shot at my local VW shop for some goodwill but they just said pound salt. Took it to my indy to do but don't think it cost me that much. Will have to find my bill.
