Did an oil change for the first time ever.

It was next to impossible to remove the filter.  The filter wrench couldn't budge it. Took several punches with a screw driver to get it off. So annoying.

Anyway, it's done.

Yeah.

Sucks I'm out of beer cause I've earned it!

Gratifying to do it myself.

Heck ya! Filter will come of easier next time since I'm guessing you put it on correctly.

Glad you gave it a shot and got it done.

You'll be expert in no time!

Props to doing the oil change yourself. I keep telling myself I will buy the jugs from Ron and do it myself someday...

But a fuel leak. It's at the junction just in front of driver side rear wheel. It's metal where all the fuel lines connect. Rusted. And it's a huge PITA to change.

Most common issue that leads to tossing a beater.  Real can of worms that area in the rust belt.

You can't believe what needs to be done to fix it. Huge pain even if it's just a drip every 2 seconds or so.

Being there many times personally and seen it countless times.  Even a failed in tank electric fuel pump on a vehicle with no access plate can lead to the destruction of this complex fitting that breaks into many useless pieces.  Frustrating way to end.

Not yet...but my son bought some Royal Purple synchromesh for his 5.0.  Guess he read on a forum somewhere that it improves the shifting.  I hope he's right.  He also bought a suck and blow pump...because guess what dad! (it wasn't a question) You're helping me change it!  (when he gets home from school)  OK I guess...hope I don't mess it up. Never done that before.  Good he's taking a keen interest in maintaining his car himself.  He also bought 4 jugs of Mobil 1 synthetic so he's ready (it was 45% or something off at Cdn Tire) - I told him get Quaker State...it's just as good and even cheaper when it's on sale.  What do I know, of course.  Meh, fine...I've used it since I owned my first car, so far so good.  So a future date then...

Finished paint correction on the SS, and that's about it, I was sick most of the weekend :(

I did finally order new tires for the Escalade this morning. Went with Continental Terrain Contact A/Ts. New tires, looks like they were just launched back in December, but the reviews were good, and I got a nice price through work. I am sure they'll be an improvement over the very worn and now cracking Pirelli Scorpion ATR's that are on it now.

If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Spent a few hours cleaning out the inside of the Mazda yesterday.  It had been a while and it was bordering on disgusting.

As I was cleaning for some reason my mind drifted to Snowman.   Strange how that works, huh?

Not sure he would have been happy with the final product, there's still some work to be done.

Got my Potenza RE760s installed on the GTI. Such a huge improvement over the stock Pirelli all seasons.

nah it is a 1999 Mirage hatch with 200,000kms - remember, I'm in Oz  ;)

You know me better than that, I would NEVER buy a new one, holy hell no! "Old Blue" was virtually free and gets me around town, all I need from it.

Got a call from the repair shop that my Thing's tranny is ready to be shipped back to me.  Finding someone competent to work on these old air cooled vehicles is getting harder to do.  Special tools and jigs are needed for tranny work,  and new parts are hard to come by.
Hopefully, I'll be able to put the tranny back in tomorrow.  Unfortunately, I can't put the engine back in until the rubber engine seal that seals the engine so no hot air from underneath the car gets back into the engine compartment arrives.

I knew I needed that seal, but I ordered the wrong part.  I need the rear section, but mistakenly ordered the front section.  :P

The engine can't go in until the seal is in place.

Only two businesses in N.A. sell these seals.  The $20 price was decent, but shipping will cost me $24 US.  :(

Even though shipping from the US is expensive I'm really glad these two businesses exist, considering the Thing was only sold in North America for 2 years (1973/74) and that was 43 years ago.  :o
