Applied RainX to the Corolla, properly this time!  I love watching the water just bead off the glass, especially the side windows.

Fixed the door handle on the Spitfire. It was driving me nuts. Would work off the car but not on the car. Took a while to figure out but when installed it would somehow engage the lock always. Disabled the outside lock and it works great. Someone had been in there before trying to make it work as it was loose and missing a bolt. Replaced and I can now open the door from inside and outside. When I bought the car you could do neither.

Passenger side on mine only opens from the outside...Probably a similar issue, it's also all loose. Just another job on the list...

I did the inside handle a while back. A new one was included with the car. The window winder is tricky to get off with a silly little pin holding it. Some pics if you are interested. My handle was broken but the linkage could be off on yours. A lot of times they work again if you lub up the linkages.

Getting front sub frame bushings and bolts replaced today. Rice Krispies aren't the only things that go snap, crackle pop.

Wasn't exactly me.  Had my brother detail the Mazda in the inside, and clay bar the outside.  Looks great.  Will wax it when I can, or when he can...

Re: What did you do to your car today? Pennzoil Pure Plus oil change
« Reply #2848 on: July 14, 2014, 11:42:34 am »
yesterday, changed oil for the Rabbit.     this time, went with Pennzoil Platinum Pure Plus.

apparently, this is made using GTL(Gas to Liquid) technique.

i drove 35 km on it so far, and it seems to be quieter and smoother than Castrol.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Pennzoil Platinum is fantastic oil. I put it in any car I do my own oil changes. I haven't done my own UOA but everyone else's which I've seen looks good, and where this oil really shines is in direct injection engines with its superb fuel dilution resistance. Look at Mobil 1, Castrol (non German), etc. fuel dilution is always greater than 2% (up to 4%) at normal oil change intervals in direct injection engines, but Pennzoil Platinum is typically 0.5, sometimes maybe 1%. PurePlus is a surprise development for this budget oil, I didn't use it in my cars last oil changes but I have a jug in 0W20 and 5W30 on standby.

I started buying jugs of 0W20 for my Mazda 3 in the US whenever I happen to be there, $26USD at Walmart, good stuff. You can only buy 0W20 by the litre here and it occasionally goes on sale for $6.29 at Canadian Tire. 5L jugs can go on sale for under $30 here.

PP is the People's Hero on the Bob oil guy forums. Nothing but good things to say about it.

I am a fan of RP in my Alfa [it likes it, tappets tick less], and Rotella T6 for my Saab [great UOA for high pressure turbo cars that are tuned] with colder plugs.

But PP I liked in the MINI and GP.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Rotella T6 is also well regarded among Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 owners. The Mazda CX-7 had the same motor in some configurations as well.

Feck..

changed oil on the bimmer.

been a few month since the oil pan gasket change, so i went under the car.  there was some residue from the oil filter housing gasket mishap so i sprayed some brake clean.

must have been not enough air circulation in the garage.  got nauseous from the gas and threw up twice.

and the stupid oil took an hour to pump out.  still feeling sick...   :-[ :-X :'(

Thanks.  It was quicker than ordering new VW clips.  Plus LEGO won't rust off.  ;)   Is it A/C-less Jeep you're selling?

You probably should wear a respirator with the proper filter cartridge or have a buddy watch you in case you succumb to vapour under the car.

My mechanic buddy has a spider problem and uses brake clean to solve the problem.

I was unaware until recently that brake clean is basically acetone.  Or nail polish remover!

Today I changed the Sebring's Insurance Use from All Purpose to Pleasure. Starting tomorrow, I will be walking 5 km (return) four days per week. Not only will this improve my fitness and save me money, it will mean less wear and tear driving on Winnipeg's obscenely bad streets.
