just passed 300K km couple days ago on the Lexus.   it's been good but next time I'll buy something with less mileage.

What Lexus is this?

2006 RX400H,  White, beige interior.  There's a bit or rust showing in the rear fenders (1/2").  It's been reliable. I replaced the battery when I first got it, not the hybrid battery the regular one, and the brakes,  that's it.  Everything works.  Fuel Average is about 10.3L /100km, I'm a bit heavy on the pedal.   IT's actually a pretty quick car.

These are nice. I have a client who had two modern RX350s stolen one after the other, and finally he couldn't deal with the inconvenience. He went on Marketplace and found a mechanically clapped but visually sorted 2007 RX400h for $2500, with 480,000km on it. He paid us a few thousand to do a hybrid battery replacement, suspension refresh and fluids, and he's been driving it daily for quite some time.

That's interesting. Curious if Lexus has sorted out the theft thing finally on the 2023's and up or not, have heard they finally encrypted the CANBUS system

Put on the grill block.  The Corolla is now ready for the approaching cold blast.

CX-5 goes in tomorrow to get the rear shocks replaced.  5 years and 60k-ish kms on the clock.  My mechanic first noted they were weeping a year and a half ago during an oil change, and said he'd just keep an eye on them.  During the last oil change a few weeks ago he said they were done - now full on leaking.  Should cost about $400.  No clue what he's putting on there, but he knows I take care of my car, so I don't think he's putting the cheap ones on.

A quick google search shows the 2017-2020 CX-5's are known for bad rear shocks - they were corrected in later models, and a TSB issued for existing cars.

Unfortunately, I'm out of the warranty period, so out of pocket for me!

Yeah, 60k seems early to me for shocks.  I remember replacing shocks on my '94 Altima at around 64k (and no, I have absolutely no idea why I remember that) but that's the only car I've ever had to replace shocks on.

The 2003 Oddy received new cartridges up front at some point (7-8 yrs IIRC), rear shocks were still the originals after 9.5 yrs/145,000 km. The 2012 was on the original units all-around after 11 years and 92,000 km.

That is early, but not bad cost or difficulty wise.

Ya that sucks GBA, but sounds like the CUV has been solid otherwise. A fairly minor cost/inconvenience.

The rear shocks on our Mazda5 went even earlier but I forgot the exact timeline. Got the Monroe sensatracs from CT and replaced them myself. Was an easy job and they surprisingly lasted the rest of the time we kept the 5. The top shock mounts broke later on. This was just about the only issue we had, other than rust..

Yeah, it's early, but it appears to be an issue on this specific gen of CX-5.  They identified the problem and fixed it after 2020.

All in all, it's a relatively minor expense.  I spent more painting the house and replacing baseboards this christmas.
