Towing that thing with the 4Runner must have been a slow miserable experience.

Ordered a kit of (4) rotors and pads "POWER STOP K5555 Z23 Evolution Sport" plus 2 MOOG stabilizer bar link from RA yesterday, there was a 75U$ (±100CAD) instant rebate until 08/15, its help to partially cover freight charge...

Shiny new parts are in!

Rolled over 250k in the Tundra last week. I missed seeing the exact mark. It’s still getting daily duty and have been racking up the clicks on it since Covid with daily trips to work and regular lake duty, along with whatever else.

I am seriously considering replacing it soon, however the new reality vehicle prices are telling me to drive it fully into the ground. But the body is pretty clean, so I could get an OK dollar for it today, rather than waiting for a major component failure and sending it to the scrap yard.

I mentioned in another thread that it needs new winters, summers next year, a windshield, and the shocks should be done (still wallows less than a new Chevy).

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Ya, that's where I'd list it at.  Still a good looking truck in my eyes.

I would sell it right now for $17k and not put a dime in it or do the tires, shocks, windshield and drive another 5 years. Can't really lose.

Keeping it?  Good point if one's intention is to buy another used 1/2 ton?  Why get deep into somebody else's vehicle when you know your own.

Now if we are talking new, that's a different story.  ;D

How rusty is the frame? Rust kills these things (and any vehicle) out east.

Typical SK rusty, lol. Was inspected and coated by Toyota quite a few years back as part of a campaign. I dunno, I’m not concerned about that.

Not sure if I’m upgrading, and if I do not sure if new or used. Fack, I’m all over the map. Tell you one thing, I’m not all horny about dishing out 70k for a base half ton. I’ve been looking pretty hard, and any model above a work truck spec is essentially 60k, ans you would know.  Add in taxes and whatever else and there you have  it.

I should find a minty ‘18 Tundra for 40k and call it a day. It’ll last for a min ten years.

I'd say keep it.

The only thing major that could go wrong with it is the secondary air pump - that's $2500.  If you're not craving new tech, I'm sure you could get another 250k and ten years out of it.

You're at the point now where the Tundra will start to separate itself from other trucks.

It separated itself years ago. ;)

Secondary air pump system is already taken care of, as in bypassed.

I'd say keep it.

Same here. It's money in the bank. I'd keep it.

Though if you can get "all the money" for your truck AND find a good deal on the replacement, go for it.

But that's no small feat in this market.

Keep it, put some quality tires and shock on it and just keep running it. 250K is nothing for that truck, it still looks good, I am sure it still drives great.

250k on a Tundra, keep it. Slap some tires, shocks, get a new head unit with carplay and call it a day. Newer trucks didn't make such a huge leap to make dumping 70k on.

I also hate new trucks because there is always a reluctance to treat them as a truck. Until it breaks you are living in the golden age of truck ownership where it is working and you don't mind using it for truck things. A ding here or a rock there? Who cares.

Not me, but my BIL listed is 2013 4Runner for sale yesterday.  I think it tentatively sold the same day.  The first couple that came to see it said they would take it.  He's showing it to one more couple today in case the first couple back out, but I think it's basically as good as sold.

Not sure how long the ad will stay up.
https://www.autotrader.ca/a/toyota/4runner/winnipeg/manitoba/19_12665446_/?showcpo=ShowCpo&ncse=no&orup=1_1_1&pc=R2K%203Z3&sprx=100

Thats nuts.  4Runner or no. Good on him.

Ditto.  Great job.  What's he replacing it with?

I'm somewhat in the same boat, but not to the same extent.  Paid $34k for the Pilot in March 2018 and could easily sell it in the low $20k range....I see dealers are asking $25k-ish.  So I'm probably under $200 a month depreciation and I've done nothing but scheduled maintenance and brakes.  The all season tires were new when I bought it and they are nearing end of life.

He picked up a 2023 Outback Wilderness last month.  Waited two months for it.

He's going to be listing his trailer for sale later this week.  His kids are well into being teenagers and starting to get summer jobs, so he figures the whole family camping lifestyle is over for now.

Nice choice, and I'm sure he will enjoy the improvement in fuel economy and full-time AWD in the winter.  The 4Runner would have been a part time 4H/4L setup, right?

Yes, part time 4WD.  It was a 'base' SR5, although the base 4Runner is still pretty well equipped with leather power seats, etc.

The Outback Wilderness has the 2.4T, so plenty of power, and combined with that AWD system will make it a very competent (and fun!!!) winter vehicle.  It's a massive step up in the feature department, too.

Nice choice! I liked the Wilderness that I reviewed - the high setp-in should feel natural after a 4Runner, and it'll go anywhere too.

Home Town's Ben Napier's Chevy is a good example of this. A bit of a restomod, but with plenty of dings and scratches. You see him drop lumber in there in most shows - it's used as a truck, and with no salt down there in Y'all Land it'll last forever.

Given the price of trucks these days, I would maintain the Tundra for truck stuff and buy something nice for commuting and general driving - if the space allows it. Like a CX-5 or Crosstrek  ;)
