Did a quick Google search and it looks like the MK7/7.5 is problematic too. I read there is even a recall in US and they extended the warranty to 8 years....
ADP has  video on MK7 DYI  (yet to watch it)

Fun fact - the original pump on MK7 GTI appears to be made in Canada by Magna  ;)

All this water pump talk makes me happy that mine lasted 13 years and 300,000+ km.

Those water pump numbers are Land Rover numbers. Respect.

In the TDI the average seems to be 110k-120k km. So, just outside the powertrain warranty.

At the dealership getting the car looked at for the low coolant warning.

I'm expecting the estimate to be insane so I'll shop around for a better price at an indie.  I only brought it to the dealer to see if VW will offer any goodwill based on the fact it's a common failure (they revised the part). Unlikely but...

Anyway, a woman just walked in with a low coolant warning on her Tiguan.... You do you VW ...

And another lady just had a repair denied by her extended warranty provider.

It's so annoying, because I really really like the car.

If still there, ask if there is an extended warranty for the wp and/or t-stat in Canada. It looks like there is one in the US based on online info I found. It seems like the issue goes back to MK6.... class action in US, recall, extended warranty, etc...

Probably not, but worth asking....

I had my coolant flush done few months back but they didn't say anything about recall/extended warranty, but didn't ask either (was not aware at the time). I know the Service Manager at my local WV dealer so will ask him next time.... which could be soon as I may go pick up a bottle of coolant to keep in the garage.

Just checked the level on mine this morning and it's OK so finger crossed. Pretty hard to check for signs of leaks from the top though. May need to wait until spring to go under the car...

Did a scan last night for codes and nothing.  Took the car for a drive and monitored live coolant temp... no signs of issues so far.

Right now it's a really really slow leak, so I'm interested to see if they find anything.

But good call bringing up the extended warranty in the US.

But good call bringing up the extended warranty in the US.

Looks like this came out mid-last year (the letter sent to US owners) and it extends the warranty for wp&t-stat to 8 years or 80,000 miles. I think this might be coming to Canada (or at least it should) some time - not sure if Patrick would know or allowed to disclose (?)...

From the forums it seems like VW will reimburse the owners who paid out of the pocket prior the notification, if the repair was done at the dealer or up to a ceiling ($1,150) if done elsewhere... I could not find (yet) a copy of the letter though so not sure if this is accurate.

Are you able to see yourself where is coming from? Your engine is different, but just curious if you have the ability to keep an eye on it.

The TDI engine bay is pretty tight. I'm not sure it's possible to see without pulling off the under body panels.

But the coolant level in the tank really hasn't dropped since the first warning appeared.

And I'm not sure the US warranty covers the TDI's since I think the water pump is a different model.  For the TDI they went with a variable flow pump to speed up the warm up times.  The revised part ditches this feature in favour of a conventional pump.

Update:  No leaks found. They pressure tested the system and no pressure loss was detected.

They said the coolant reservoir cap wasn't venting the pressure so think that might be the cause.  I'm not so sure, but it's a $20 part so why not.

I could have topped it up and kept an eye on the level, but happy to have some peace of mind.

Literally, the number 1 reason Porsches leak coolant. They are on multiple part revisions now...for a coolant cap. Guys also replace them...needed or not...every couple of years.

Not sure if it's the same nonsense here....because FGC!
