In the big truck world (semis) most go 40,000km between changes.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Many "professional" truckers see many times that number as they often use a secondary by-pass oil filter system to drastically increase oil life.
True. I’ve head some guys go 100,000km or more. No way I’d go that long. I don’t care how many filters I’m running.

It's a mental thing IMO. We've been told for so long that we need to change oil at X interval.

Oil is so darn good now.

Since time not driving/oil cost is money for these guys, many do the by pass + oil analysis to determine optimal change and really have it dialed into a science.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Ron, ever watch Project Farm on YouTube? If not, you’ll love his oil comparisons (and other cool comparison and tests)

Yes! I really like most of his tests...particularly his Brand A vs Brand B tests.

I'm less fond of his oil tests since they're pretty basic (which isn't his fault).

I attempted to finally replace the rear calipers, rotors and pads on the Outlander only to find out that the stupid caliper is defective / not reman properly and the hose bolt does not go in all the way because there is another piece (sort of reducer) in it that shouldn't be there. At least is not in the one than came off the car.
As a result the fluid leaks and the pedal is soft and the car is disabled at the moment.

I checked the P/N from multiple sources and I got the right part that was supposed to be exact fit. The calipers are Centric reman BTW. Kind of disappointed with Centric now especially I thought they are decent quality rebuilds. The fronts were fine and went in with no issue.

Luckily I only installed one (started late and it got dark) and the old caliper is still functional so I can put it back while I fight with PartSource and eventually Centric to either give me the right part or refund. Not fun....

I will take the old and new back to the store tomorrow and see if they have other units in stock that are built to fit but I'm afraid this is not going to happen.....

@Firm: How is Centric customer service? Can I expect any help from them? I still want their caliper just one that actually fits.

I've personally never had a "bad" Centric part.

The caliper is not bad per say just doesn't fit. Could be a bad batch manufactured incorrectly.
I went to PartsStore and they looked at other boxes in stock and they are all the same. They'll take them back but this does not solve my problem completely since I still want new (reman) calipers and no idea where to get them locally (GTA) so I can check them out before buying.

Napa maybe another place to check out for a retail transaction.
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

Any chance you changed the hose? I had a situation recently where the 'male' thread on the new hose was a little too long and bottom out in the caliper before tightening down properly. I had to carefully grind 1/16" off the end of the hose and it worked fine. I took a quick look in the catalogue and there's only one style of caliper listed for the 07 Outlander, so I am not sure what's going on with yours honestly....

This is a good point and I checked - only replaced the fronts. I recall my buddy at the dealership advised to leave the rear alone and indeed I check the invoice to confirm. The hoses, even if they were replaced they would've been OEM.

I sent an email to Centric support with pictures of the old and new. Will see if I get an answer.

😀... This is not a bad idea afterall.

Yesterday there were four of us working/advising while we did my friend's Forester rear brakes and then mine.

At one point it was funny as we had to stop and have a brainstorming session as the hub on my Outlander would not turn to  lineup the hole in the rotor with the handbrake shoe adjuster.
We didn't have this issue earlier on the Forester. In the end we had to slightly lift up off the ground the other wheel and then it spun freely. Live and learn. It's part of the fun.

The axle nut should be torqued to almost the same amount of torque the engine makes! Lol

I've spent the long weekend thus far alternating between helping Mrs.Firm with the garden stuff and working on the Vette....Interior is pretty well wrapped, moving onto paint touchups next. Will put a proper update the S&S when I get a chance.

Two of GM's finest for 85. Wish I had an 85 K5 Blazer where the Escalade is....

*Note, the Italian novelty plate is better than a gaping hole...I know, it's bad.

Got some fruit trees with the Vibe yesterday:

Nice fruit trees. Funny fact, was shopping about citronnier (lemon tree) yesterday, without any winter coat   ;)

Such utility in those cars

I have been very close to buy a red Pontiac Vibe (Toyota Matrix) during GM bankruptcy in 2009 when they were liquidating their dead brand inventory but that period was a tad too much financially insecure to my taste to buy any car, I passed.

So I washed the Q5 for he first time today. I have never had a car ceramic coated before, I was amazed how the water just beads of it.. going forward I will definitely have my vehicles ceramic coated.
