haven't started the bimmer in a while, so thought to start the engine and get the oil flowing a little bit, and might as well start the merc and record a vid.

Nice! My SLK has that same whine on start up... very familiar.

What's the whine? Almost sounds like cold power steering pump.
Yeah, pretty sure thats what it is, goes away pretty quickly.

My Cayenne make the same power steering pump whine when cold, always has.   Maybe it's the same pump?

haha, thanks.  you can kind of hear the pop in the merc exhaust notes there, but it doesn't make that sound all the time.

bimmer's sound is a lot more high pitched, just as loud as benz at higher RPM but doesn't feel like it.  you can kinda hear the exhaust rasp of the bimmer as i cross over 3k rpm though.

I replaced the drive belt, tensioner, and idler pulley on the Tundra yesterday.

The tensioner was getting a bit noisy when cold so ordered a Gates kit on the 21st from Rockauto. The kit arrived in the 24th. Parts on the Gates kit don’t seem up to the OEM quality.  Original parts are Dayco however when I ordered the Dayco kit wasn’t available. Ah well, I’m sure the Gates will be fine.

The truck has just over 200k on it now. The original tensioner and idler pulleys have no play in the bearings from what I could tell. Anyway, easy enough job and only took me a couple hours. Could likely do it in less than an hour now that I’ve done it once.

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Nice work!

And yeah, I hear ya on being able to do it quickly if you had to do it again.

Not today but over Christmas . Did an oil change on the truck. I like changing the oil on it because no ramps or jacking required. Just crawl under.

It might be the last change though.  :-\

No still runs like a top and will yet. Thinking of going a bit newer. Maybe a Tacoma with a good frame. Maybe 4WD but i don't need it. The fun is in the looking.

I also become attached to my old junk and don't want to part with it. I am torn  :-\

Drives my wife nuts. She will believe it when it is in the driveway.

I drove few kms for fun and specific purpose Today:

So, the maintenance mode kicked in after 42 days (burnt some gas for 10 minutes), and made some dust brake trying to remove rust surface on disk brakes, the Volt being parked for while into the driveway. They look better now.

I went to a dead end (cul de sac) road sector where business are closed for holidays, ramp up a bit and then, hard brake in neutral few times forward and reverse. Never ramped up so quick in reverse before !  :bang:
Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...

gave the Lexus a much needed wash, and will be visiting the girlfriend's mom who just bought a Mazda3 GT Turbo 100th Anniversary sedan. White on red, looks really good. Happy for her, she doesn't treat herself often. That now makes 3 Mazda 100th Anniversary cars in the family. Soon to be a 4th.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.
