Is there synthetic fluid in there from the factory?

Nothing I'd be concerned about.  I remember the first change I did on my Tundra.  I was like "oh, that's nasty".  On the next change it was more like "that looked like a waste to dump".  Just follow the manual for servicing and don't worry about it until it piles up.  ;D
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Hm makes me wonder if I should change my diff + manual transmission fluid. BMW says its "lifetime".  ::) :-\

AFAIK, no. The stock ACDelco Dexron LS Gear Oil doesn't say it's synthetic. And it smells awful.
Yeah, that does look rather dark for a relatively new car, how many kms on it? Wonder if there is some initial 'break-in' wear that colors the fluid quickly.
3595 km on the odo when I did the change. I kept putting mine off until the last weekend.
IIRC changing the diff fluid was required after the break in as per the manual.
The manual says to change it before the first track event after 2400 km on the odo. I am not doing a track event soon but I feel like I should check on it.

Some folks on the Camaro forum suggest a change after 800 km and then again at 2400 km. I can see where they are coming from for sure.

Maybe that’s what it was. I changed all the fluids @ 1500km.
I changed my oil frequently since you get 4 free ones in the first 2 years/48,000 km.

I am getting my trans fluid changed this weekend.
Hm makes me wonder if I should change my diff + manual transmission fluid. BMW says its "lifetime".  ::) :-\
I know someone with an M4 and they told me that M4 has a system that restricts power until after the break-in, and his diff fluid looked like mine after break-in, so not so sure about their lifetime stuff...

Not unheard of to have a break-in fluid with additional detergent additives.

Do some car specific research, but the answer is probably yes. My XKR was 'lifetime' and I changed the diff + automatic transmission fluid, both came out looking like they were due & the driveline feels a bit smoother with the fresh fluid (though that could just be my perception).

I don't think GM does that. Heard that's a thing for Honda's however.

Most people on BMW forums change it. They're also car enthusiasts that care about their car. Dealers say its lifetime fluid and changing it is not required.

What about the average guy who follows maintenance by the book/dealer recommendations? Does his transmission and diff blow up or have excess wear/tear at 200 km? Or it doesn't matter because a FGC not make it there anyway?  :rofl2:

My 3 also did not have a transmission fluid change interval, but I did it at 96,000km.

Definitely noticed the steering feels tighter. The big bushing that came out was soft. The 2 smaller OEM ones were better, but overall the Daizen bushings are firmer than OEM.

Went with Mevotech links and sway bar bushings. They're based in Ontario and buying from Ontario's online car parts store Wrench Monkey is significantly cheaper than even RockAuto for these. The stock components that came out were still good...car feels a (maybe) a smidge better, but not anywhere near as noticeable as the steering rack improvement.

Have had good luck with Mevotech so far...and a mechanic friend said they really stand behind their product. He said he's had a single issue with one of their products and when he called not only did they refund the price of the part, they refunded the labor. Plus they told him the next time he needed a part  (any part) to call them direct and they'd send him the parts for free...which he says they did. So based on his praise, I've been using them for awhile now....and so far so good.

Hm, they sell some front end stuff for my 5 but nothing for the rear end.

Installed a gigantic screen in the wife’s 3. It’s a quad core Android based system by Eonon but has built in Apple CarPlay. Super easy to install, the speed is about what you would expect from any OE car infotainment system, steering wheel controls and illumination works great, I installed TomTom for when she doesn’t feel like plugging in her phone, and the best feature is not having to look for a reverse wire to trigger the backup cam which she’s been bugging me for ages.

That looks excellent, well done.

Since we have you "after" photos, I have to ask, do you have kind of "before" photo of the dash where you installed this?

Nice work btw  ;)

Edit, I went to mfg website, I understand now they offer unit to fit  some specific car model and 10" or 7" "universal type.

Nice for sure, that really freshens up a car. You get all the adapters to plug into the stock harness plug/aerial on Amazon?

Yea they make plug and play stuff for BMW, VW, Mazda, and a few others. My car when it was brand new:

They had a more stock looking unit as well with 8" screen and physical buttons and volume knob, but it required a $60 dongle for Apple Carplay for whatever reason.

The unit came completely wired for my car, it was 5 minutes from when I opened the box to having it fully installed. Even the LCD screen on the upper dash works, something that wouldn't work with any other aftermarket head unit. So when I'm looking at $98 to buy a wiring harness with steering wheel control box vs. $365 to buy something like this, it's a no brainer.

Looks great, DKaz.

I've been thinking of upgrading the Sonata's stereo with something similar.
