I'm tempted to watch "IT" on Netflix. Anybody seen it ? Is it worth it ?

Some Stephen King novels translate readily and compellingly to the big screen.  For others, it's almost impossible.  This would be an example of the latter.  The book was tense and terrifying.  But the movie(s) reduce the multidimensional terror that is Pennywise to something that is merely a scary clown.  An really, aren't all clowns pretty much scary to begin with? ;D

Abso-feckin-lutely!!!!

 :rofl2:

Yeah the Green Mile was just an outstanding adaptation - and the others mentioned as well - particularly Shawshank.

OMG The Dome was just utter and complete shite.

Yeah, it was actually called Under the Dome. I didn't like it at all.

Other good King adaptations include The Dead Zone, Christine and the Running Man.

Also recently I saw 1922 on Netflix, and it was pretty good.

Under the Dome had a cool premise. The first episode was not horrible from what I recall but it went downhill quickly and badly. Poor acting, shallow characters and a story that backtracked on itself and got confused. I wonder if it was supposed to be small mini-series but they stretched it to three seasons. Shame as it could have been very good.

There have indeed been several excellent adaptations:

First and foremost, the dramas:
Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
The Dead Zone  (really a drama involving precognitive abilities)

The the scary ones:
The Stand
Christine
The Shining (I liked the movie FAR better than the King approved TV miniseries)

What I'm hoping will be good is the TV version of "The Dark Tower" series.  Almost impossible but ya never know.  I believe that Prime will be carrying it if/when it actually shows up.  The movie, at least what I saw of it, had little to do with the books and was awful.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining was great, but I read that it digressed a bit from the book. Kubrick made it into his own creation by adding his own twists. King was not involved in the development of the movie and had some harsh words for the adaptation, because he felt it wasn't true to his book.

But it is a cult movie today. I watched it again not long ago, and Jack Nicholson is just amazing and incredibly scary in this movie. All the scenes are so well thought out, so well directed and acted, the scenery and filming locations are breathtaking.

It has to be one of the greatest scary movies of all time.

I watched The Shining for the first time fairly recently. I want to say within the last couple of years. It's a good movie, though not my typical genre.

As for the Dark Tower saga, I say simply can't be done (well).  I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong.

Apt Pupil was good too.

Stand By Me, Shawshank and Apt Pupil are all good because they were all short stories.

TV miniseries.  Should have mentioned that.  Someone also mentioned Stand By Me.  Agree that it was a great movie.

I was at TACCOM this week-end in Toronto. It's an expo for the shooting sports.

Movie Armament Group had a large booth there. They are a company that supplies equipment and services for the movie and TV industry in Toronto (Guns, clothing, various weapons, uniforms, etc).

They were displaying all kinds of guns, equipment and outfits they use in the movie and TV business in Toronto. One of the guys there was explaining to me what guns and ammo are used in movies and how they are used. How his company assists producers, actors and directors when shooting scenes with guns.

It was pretty interesting and puts some perspective on some of the scenes you see on TV with people shooting full auto AK47 like they have infinite ammo and what they do off-screen to make it realistic on-screen.

They had the guns used by the Suicide Squad crew there, and he explained how they come to select and create certain specific guns such as the one used by Harley Quinn.

Sigh...watched (all of) Cold Pursuit yesterday.  The preview I saw a while back looked pretty good.  Wow... :P ::)  Should've left it at that.
* If this is "Fiona Gallaghers" first foray into something other than Shameless...she shoulda stayed put.  Or waited for something better.  Talk about a bit part.  Probably got paid less than even I make in a year.  I can see why Liams characters wife left without a word "get me the fack outta here!"
* Who edited this damn thing?  Facking timelines were so skewered they must've had real coke on the set and used it through final editing.  Jeez..."please take my name off that movie...I'd like to work again!"
* Liam Neeson must be finished by now, right?
* The bad guy...was just bad.  Must've been his first job.  Good for him I guess.  If he's got more chops under his belt than this one hit blunder...someone should point him to his nearest insurance broker...maybe they're hiring.  :P  There's a political career in wait.
* So much bad CGI...

All in all...shitty movie. Don't bother.

Watched "Yesterday" on the weekend.  What a fun little film - neat premise and full of British humour.  Lead actor could play Rajesh Kuthrapalli's brother (Big Bang Theory) in a heartbeat, and Katherine McKinnon's turn as a music industry agent is uproariously funny in its subtlety.

So I went to the movies tonight with my lady, and we watched Joker.

Damn... I don't know what to say... Just wow. Amazing performance by Joachin Phoenix. The movie is dark, gritty, violent and sad. Very sad, depressing even.

A look behind the curtain of mental illness and those people that society marginalizes and leaves in the gutter.

Just go watch it. :censor: go !
