I kind of want to see the new Spider-man film; looks like a fun one to see. Sure it's not the most deep-thought provoking kind of film but sometimes it'd be a fun break from reality.  :) The presse reviews are decent too.

Will have to wait a couple weeks until I can see it in English. though (the next time I'm in Strasbourg).

I saw it with the kids and Mrs. Random earlier this week.  It’s an interesting premise and there are quite a few good bits but overall, none of us was blown away.

I give it a “good but not great” rating.

I want to see it, not because I expect to see a breathtaking story or feel some emotions, but because the animation looks very, very well done.

yeah, this ^ . Sometimes you want to see a movie just for fun, not necessarily always one that involves deep introspection or thought. :D

Saw ‘Vice’ tonight.  Fantastic film.  We’re all so totally f@cked.

^^^ Interesting and not surprising graph. Seems the latest trend is to remake movies that where all men were the main characters and replace them with women. IE: Ghostbusters, Oceans 8

Went to see The Mule yesterday afternoon. It was good. Not amazing by any means, but it's an interesting story. Afterwards I read the NYT piece that it's based on and while a lot of the movie was fictionalized it is rooted in reality.

Afterwards we watched Bad Times at the El Royale. It was entertaining too. Great cast.

Saw Bumblebee. Was a fantastic redemption of the Transformers name. Not perfect, but 100% better than the previous movies.

Forget all the Michael Bay films, this is the only good one. Felt like I was watching Gen1 cartoons all over again. For those traised on the 80s cartoons, this should make you happy.

So, is this a re-reboot?

It's a prequel to 2007's Transformers set in the 1980's.

The heart of the movie is the main character and her interaction with Bumblebee.

The only negative I had was the main character's family.  They are just as cringy as the Witwicky family were in the first few Transformer movies.

Did they explain how Bumblebee turned into a Camaro?

If a bumblebee was going to change into a car it would have to be a Mopar, not a Camaro! Geeeezzzz.

Blockers (2018)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2531344/

Single mother Lisa Decker drops off her young daughter, Julie, for her first day of kindergarten. She watches on as Julie is joined by two other girls, Kayla and Sam. Kayla's dad Mitchell and Sam's dad Hunter introduce themselves and become close friends after seeing the bond between their children.

Nothing new or original here. Just take your typical American Pie script and replace the guys with girls and add even more cliches and sterotypes. Don't remember laughing during this huge turd.

Avoid.

Life of the Party (2018)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5619332/

When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna turns regret into re-set by going back to college - landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who's not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna -- now Dee Rock -- embraces freedom, fun, and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected.

Another turd with only one laugh. Take one Old School story and replace the lead with a woman but make it even less funny which I thought would be hard to do as Old School wasn't funny.

Avoid.

Roma (2018)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6155172/

A story that chronicles a year in the life of a middle-class family's maid in Mexico City in the early 1970s.

Amazing cinematography, sound mix, story. So nice to watch a film shot at this level. Loved so many of the long shots with one camera. Just shows you don't need endless frames filled with CG.

While the story is very slow moving, I think it comes together if you are willing to invest the time into the film. Thinking this could win foreign film at the Oscars.

Available on Netflix in 4K/Dolby Vision.
